BeforeAfter
BeforeAfterBariatric surgery makes the stomach smaller, and in some procedures changes the path food takes through the digestive tract, so you feel full on far less food.
The gastric sleeve and gastric bypass are typically performed laparoscopically, through a few small incisions with a camera, and the shift in hunger and portion size is what lets weight come off steadily over the following months. Endoscopic options such as ESG and the gastric balloon work from inside the stomach with no incisions at all.
At Miami VIP Surgery, surgery is one tool inside a longer plan. Dr. K also runs medical weight loss with weight loss injections, so your consultation compares every route side by side. Homestead patients follow the same plan, pricing and first-year follow-up as patients who live next door to the office.
Dr. K performs every option below himself. Which one fits depends on your weight, your health conditions and how much change you want to make.
| Procedure | Approach | How it works | Often considered by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gastric Sleeve | Surgical | Removes most of the stomach and leaves a narrow sleeve that holds far less food. | Adults with obesity and weight-related health conditions |
| Low BMI "Mini Sleeve" | Surgical | A gastric sleeve planned for patients who carry less excess weight. | Patients with a lower BMI whose weight still affects their health |
| Teen Gastric Sleeve | Surgical | The sleeve procedure, planned around a growing adolescent and their family. | Teens ages 14 to 17 |
| Gastric Bypass | Surgical | Creates a small stomach pouch and reroutes part of the small intestine, reducing both intake and absorption. | Patients with type 2 diabetes or significant reflux |
| Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) | No incisions | Sutures placed through an endoscope fold the stomach into a smaller shape. | Patients who prefer a procedure without surgery |
| ORBERA Gastric Balloon | No incisions | A soft balloon placed in the stomach takes up space for a set period, then is removed. | Patients who want a temporary, nonsurgical start |
| Medical Weight Loss | Nonsurgical | A personalized plan from our weight loss team that can include weight loss injections. | Patients not ready for a procedure, or wanting support around one |
Candidacy is decided with Dr. K from your full health history, never from one number on a chart. Patients who reach us from Homestead usually recognize themselves in one or more of these.

Dr. Reza Keshavarzi, known to his patients as Dr. K, is a board-certified bariatric surgeon and a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Louisville, earned his medical degree with High Distinction from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, completed his surgical residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital and then a fellowship in laparoscopic, bariatric and robotic surgery. Dr. K holds every consultation himself and checks on patients after they go home, the point reviewers raise most often.
Every patient moves through the same six steps, wherever they live.
Dr. K reviews your health history, past weight loss attempts and goals, then explains which procedures fit and what each costs. You leave knowing your recommended procedure and your next steps.
Medical clearances and an upper endoscopy, or EGD, are required before surgery. Results from our recommended doctor come back within 48 hours, which keeps the process moving.
A pre-surgery diet prepares your body for the operation. If you take weight loss injections, you stop them at least two weeks before your surgery date.
Dr. K performs your procedure in the hospital. For the gastric sleeve, your hospital stay and all hospital-related fees are already part of the package.
Patients typically return to work 4 to 7 days after the procedure. While you heal, avoid lifting anything heavier than 20 pounds.
Follow-up appointments for the first year are included with the gastric sleeve. Between visits, you can text our team for guidance on what comes next.
Dr. Keshavarzi explained every detail of the surgery from getting prepared, to the actual day of surgery, and beyond.
Dr. Keshavarzi was with us throughout the whole process and was even contacting us once home to see if everything was running smoothly.
Dr. K really cares, he's with you every step of the way. He's really encouraging.
Your exact cost depends on the procedure Dr. K recommends, and you see it clearly at your consultation. We can also send pricing by email before you visit.
One price that covers:
Financing through Cherry offers 24 months at 0% interest, with monthly payments as low as $320. Debit and credit cards are accepted for any remaining balance.

When Dr. K performs your required EGD, the procedure itself is included in your overall cost. A hospital fee of $750 applies.
Questions about insurance coverage are reviewed one on one at your consultation.
Approval starts with a consultation where Dr. K reviews your health history and confirms which procedure fits you. Before surgery you complete medical clearances, an upper endoscopy and a pre-surgery diet. If you plan to use insurance, your plan may set its own requirements, and we go over those with you.
For many people living with obesity, surgery leads to more weight loss, kept off longer, than diet and exercise alone, and it can improve conditions such as type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Whether it is worth it for you depends on your health and your goals, and that is exactly what the consultation weighs. One of our patients put it plainly: "I honestly wish I would have done this sooner."
Coverage depends on your plan and its requirements, so we review insurance questions one on one at your consultation. For patients paying directly, our gastric sleeve package is $14,000 and Cherry financing is available.
Your consultation and follow-up visits take place at our South Miami office, and your hospital stay is part of the gastric sleeve package. Required tests can be done at our clinic or at an outside facility you choose, and an EGD can be done with Dr. K or elsewhere. Between visits, our team answers questions by text and phone.
Surgery dates are often available within the current month. How quickly you reach one depends mostly on how fast you complete your medical clearances and EGD.
You will eat much smaller portions, and your diet moves in stages from liquids back to regular foods as you heal. Our team explains each stage before and after surgery, and diet plans are available on our website so you always know what comes next.
Book a complimentary consultation and leave knowing which procedure fits you, what it costs and how soon you could have surgery.
