The basics

Bariatric Surgery in Homestead, FL: How It Works

Bariatric surgery makes the stomach smaller, and in some procedures changes the path food takes through the digestive tract, so you feel full on far less food.

The gastric sleeve and gastric bypass are typically performed laparoscopically, through a few small incisions with a camera, and the shift in hunger and portion size is what lets weight come off steadily over the following months. Endoscopic options such as ESG and the gastric balloon work from inside the stomach with no incisions at all.

At Miami VIP Surgery, surgery is one tool inside a longer plan. Dr. K also runs medical weight loss with weight loss injections, so your consultation compares every route side by side. Homestead patients follow the same plan, pricing and first-year follow-up as patients who live next door to the office.

What to expect

From Homestead to Surgery Day and Beyond

Every patient moves through the same six steps, wherever they live.

  1. 1

    Consultation With Dr. K

Dr. K reviews your health history, past weight loss attempts and goals, then explains which procedures fit and what each costs. You leave knowing your recommended procedure and your next steps.

  2. 2

    Pre-Op Testing

Medical clearances and an upper endoscopy, or EGD, are required before surgery. Results from our recommended doctor come back within 48 hours, which keeps the process moving.

  3. 3

    Getting Ready

A pre-surgery diet prepares your body for the operation. If you take weight loss injections, you stop them at least two weeks before your surgery date.

  4. 4

    Surgery Day

Dr. K performs your procedure in the hospital. For the gastric sleeve, your hospital stay and all hospital-related fees are already part of the package.

  5. 5

    Recovery at Home

Patients typically return to work 4 to 7 days after the procedure. While you heal, avoid lifting anything heavier than 20 pounds.

  6. 6

    Your First Year

Follow-up appointments for the first year are included with the gastric sleeve. Between visits, you can text our team for guidance on what comes next.

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in Homestead, FL

How do I get approved for bariatric surgery?

Approval starts with a consultation where Dr. K reviews your health history and confirms which procedure fits you. Before surgery you complete medical clearances, an upper endoscopy and a pre-surgery diet. If you plan to use insurance, your plan may set its own requirements, and we go over those with you.

Is weight loss surgery worth it?

For many people living with obesity, surgery leads to more weight loss, kept off longer, than diet and exercise alone, and it can improve conditions such as type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Whether it is worth it for you depends on your health and your goals, and that is exactly what the consultation weighs. One of our patients put it plainly: "I honestly wish I would have done this sooner."

Will insurance pay for bariatric surgery?

Coverage depends on your plan and its requirements, so we review insurance questions one on one at your consultation. For patients paying directly, our gastric sleeve package is $14,000 and Cherry financing is available.

Do Homestead patients need to come to South Miami for every step?

Your consultation and follow-up visits take place at our South Miami office, and your hospital stay is part of the gastric sleeve package. Required tests can be done at our clinic or at an outside facility you choose, and an EGD can be done with Dr. K or elsewhere. Between visits, our team answers questions by text and phone.

How soon can I schedule bariatric surgery?

Surgery dates are often available within the current month. How quickly you reach one depends mostly on how fast you complete your medical clearances and EGD.

Will I be able to eat normally after surgery?

You will eat much smaller portions, and your diet moves in stages from liquids back to regular foods as you heal. Our team explains each stage before and after surgery, and diet plans are available on our website so you always know what comes next.
