The Procedure

What Is Bariatric Surgery in Duval County, FL?

Some bariatric operations shrink the stomach. Others also move part of the digestive tract onto a new path. Either way, you feel satisfied after much smaller meals, and hunger tends to fade. Dr. K uses minimally invasive methods, working through small incisions.

Residents of Jacksonville, Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach face a drive of just over five hours to our South Miami office, using I-95 S and Florida's Turnpike. You see one surgeon, Dr. K, who knows your case from the first conversation to your last follow-up visit.

Your Options

Weight Loss Procedures Dr. K Performs

Bariatric surgery is a family of procedures, not one operation. Dr. K offers surgical, endoscopic and nonsurgical options, so the recommendation follows your health rather than a single technique.

Candidacy

Who Is a Good Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery

Being eligible is about more than the number on the scale. Dr. K considers your weight history, any health conditions linked to your weight, the approaches you have already tried, and whether you feel prepared for the eating changes after surgery.

  • You have struggled to keep weight off through diet, exercise or medication.
  • Your weight is linked to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or joint pain.
  • You are ready to follow a pre-surgery diet and to change how you eat for the long term.
  • You can complete medical clearances and an upper endoscopy before surgery.
  • You use a GLP-1 injection and want to know whether medication, surgery or both makes sense.

Some patients need a different first step, such as getting a medical condition under control. An endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss can come first.

Why the right answer is sometimes GLP-1 medication, sometimes surgery and sometimes both.

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in Duval County, FL

Do I need to travel from Duval County for my consultation?

No. Your first talk with Dr. K can happen online, from your Jacksonville home. Once your plan and testing are ready, you make the trip to South Miami for the surgery itself.

How much does bariatric surgery cost in Florida?

Our gastric sleeve package is $14,000, including the hospital stay and first-year follow-up, and Cherry financing is available. Pricing for other procedures is reviewed at your consultation.

What disqualifies you for bariatric surgery?

Rarely is there just one reason to say no. Dr. K looks at your health history, current medications, medical clearances and how ready you are for the eating changes after surgery. When surgery is not the best first step, an endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss may come first.

Can I finish my pre-surgery tests in Duval County, FL?

Yes. You can complete the required medical clearances and upper endoscopy with us, or at an outside facility near home in Duval County. Our team will tell you which tests you need and go over the results with Dr. K.

How long does it take to lose 50 pounds after weight loss surgery?

The answer depends on your starting weight, the procedure and how closely you stick to the post-surgery diet. Most weight comes off in the first months after surgery. Dr. K will give you a realistic estimate for your procedure during your consultation.

Can I keep taking my GLP-1 injection before surgery?

They must stop at least two weeks before surgery. Dr. K can also tell you whether medication, surgery or both fits your goals.
