Bariatric Surgery Options in Miami, FL

Bariatric surgery makes the stomach smaller or changes how food moves through it, so you feel full sooner and hunger signals ease. Dr. K completed fellowship training in laparoscopic, bariatric and robotic surgery, and he performs every option below himself, from small-incision operations to incision-free endoscopic procedures.

Candidates

Who Weight Loss Surgery Is Right For

Surgery is a medical decision built around your health, not a number on the scale alone. You may be a good fit if one or more of these describe you.

  • Diets Have Not Lasted

You have lost weight with diet, exercise or medication before, and it returned.

  • Weight Is Affecting Your Health

You live with conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or joint pain.

  • Your BMI Is Lower Than Most Programs Accept

The low BMI Mini Sleeve offers a surgical option when traditional surgery is not open to you.

  • You Are a Teen Aged 14 to 17

Our teen gastric sleeve pairs surgery with coaching and close follow-up for the whole family.

  • You Have Plateaued on GLP-1 Injections

Surgery can take over where medication stalled, or the two can work together.

  • You Are Ready for the Work After

You can follow a pre-surgery diet and keep a year of follow-up visits with our team.

GLP-1s and Surgery

Surgery, GLP-1 Medication or Both

GLP-1 injections and bariatric surgery are not rivals. Each does a different job well, and Dr. K offers both, so he can recommend whichever fits your body and goals rather than steering you to the only option he offers.

Where GLP-1s Shine

A nonsurgical way to lower appetite and improve blood sugar, often a strong start or a bridge to surgery.

Where Surgery Shines

For many patients it offers greater, longer-lasting weight loss and improvement in chronic conditions without lifelong injections.

Already on Ozempic or another weight loss injection? It has to be stopped at least 2 weeks before surgery, and Dr. K plans that transition with you.

Why the right treatment, or the right combination, matters more than choosing a side.

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in Miami, FL

How much weight will I lose 3 months after gastric sleeve surgery?

It depends on your starting weight, how closely you follow the post-op diet and how active you are, so we do not promise a number. Dr. K sets a realistic range for you at your consultation. Your progress is then checked at follow-up visits throughout your first year, which are part of the surgery package.

Do I need to stop Ozempic or other weight loss injections before surgery?

Yes. GLP-1 and other weight loss injections must be stopped at least 2 weeks before your surgery date. Dr. K plans that timing with you so you are not left without support in the weeks before surgery.

Do I need an endoscopy before bariatric surgery in Miami, FL?

Yes, an upper endoscopy (EGD) is part of every pre-op workup. An EGD done within the last 5 months is accepted, and you can have it elsewhere or with Dr. Keshavarzi. When he performs it, the procedure itself is included in your surgery cost and only the $750 hospital fee applies.

How soon can I have surgery?

Your surgery date depends on how quickly your pre-op tests are completed. You can do them with us or at an outside facility, and our recommended doctor returns results within 48 hours. Once everything is in, surgery dates are often available within the same month.

When can I go back to work after bariatric surgery?

Most patients return to work 4 to 7 days after the procedure. You should not lift anything heavier than 20 pounds during early recovery, and Dr. K tells you when that limit is lifted.

Do you offer weight loss surgery for teenagers or patients with a lower BMI?

Yes. Dr. K performs a teen gastric sleeve for adolescents aged 14 to 17. For adults whose BMI sits below the range traditional surgery calls for, he offers a low BMI Mini Sleeve.
