How It Works

What Is Bariatric Surgery in Davie, FL?

Bariatric surgery changes the size or route of the stomach so you feel full on smaller portions and hunger quiets down. The gastric sleeve, the most common option, removes a large portion of the stomach laparoscopically through a few small incisions. Gastric bypass also reroutes part of the small intestine, while endoscopic options reshape the stomach from the inside with no incisions at all.

For patients in Davie, consultations and follow-up visits take place with Dr. Keshavarzi at our South Miami office, and he performs your surgery in the hospital himself. The required pre-op tests, including the endoscopy, can be done with us or at a facility closer to home, which keeps the drive south to the visits that matter.

Our approach does not end in the operating room. Dr. K builds each plan around nutrition, structured diet plans and, when it helps, GLP-1 medication before or after surgery. During recovery, patients reach him directly by phone or text rather than through a call center.

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in Davie, FL

Is weight loss surgery worth it?

For patients with obesity-related conditions, surgery is often the tool that finally makes weight loss last after diets and medications have not. Whether it is worth it for you depends on your health, your goals and your readiness for lasting habit changes, which is what your consultation with Dr. K sorts out. In their Google reviews, several of our patients say they wish they had done it sooner.

How much weight will I lose 3 months after gastric sleeve?

It varies with your starting weight, how closely you follow the post-op diet and how active you are. Weight usually comes off fastest in the first months after a sleeve and then gradually slows. Your first-year follow-up visits track your progress so the plan can be adjusted early.

Does Medicaid cover weight loss surgery?

Coverage for weight loss surgery depends on the specific Medicaid or private plan and its requirements. Bring your plan details to your consultation and our team will walk through your options. Patients paying directly can use our all-inclusive gastric sleeve package and Cherry financing.

Do patients from Davie have to drive to South Miami often?

Your consultation, surgery and follow-up care are with Dr. Keshavarzi, whose office is in South Miami. Required pre-op tests, including the endoscopy, can be completed at a facility closer to Davie, and an endoscopy done elsewhere within the past five months is accepted. Between visits, patients reach Dr. K directly by phone or text.

Can I keep taking GLP-1 injections before bariatric surgery?

Weight loss injections must be stopped at least two weeks before surgery. Dr. K plans that timing with you at your consultation. Medication can also be part of your long-term plan after surgery when it helps.

Will bariatric surgery leave scars?

The gastric sleeve and gastric bypass are performed laparoscopically through a few small incisions, which usually fade over time. Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty and the ORBERA gastric balloon are done with an endoscope through the mouth, so they leave no incisions on the abdomen.
