How it works

What Bariatric Surgery in Miramar, FL Involves

Bariatric surgery reduces the size of the stomach, and with a bypass also changes the path food takes, so you feel full on much smaller meals. It also shifts the hunger signals that make dieting alone so hard to sustain. Our sleeve and bypass procedures are laparoscopic, performed through a few small incisions with a camera guiding the instruments.

Our office sits at 7330 SW 62nd Pl in South Miami, a direct drive south from Miramar. You do not have to make every pre-op trip to us: required exams can be done at our clinic or at a facility closer to home, and an upper endoscopy done in the last five months is accepted.

Comparing Our Weight Loss Procedures

Dr. K performs six weight loss procedures and oversees medical weight loss, so your recommendation comes from the full range of options.

ProcedureHow it is doneOften considered when
Gastric sleeveLaparoscopic. Most of the stomach is removed, leaving a narrow sleeve that holds far less food. You want a lasting surgical option with a single change to the stomach.
Low BMI Mini SleeveThe laparoscopic sleeve, offered to patients with a lower BMI.Your weight affects your health but your BMI sits below where most surgical programs start.
Teen gastric sleeveThe laparoscopic sleeve within a program designed for adolescents and their families.A teenager's weight is affecting their health despite structured efforts.
Gastric bypassLaparoscopic. A small stomach pouch is created and connected further down the small intestine.Severe reflux or type 2 diabetes is part of the picture.
Endoscopic sleeve gastroplastyEndoscopic, through the mouth. Internal sutures fold the stomach smaller with no incisions on the skin. You want to reduce stomach size without traditional surgery.
ORBERA gastric balloonEndoscopic. A temporary balloon placed in the stomach takes up space so you eat less. You want a temporary, nonsurgical start paired with a structured program.

Dr. K reviews your health history and goals and explains which procedures fit. You leave knowing the recommended plan, the cost and your financing options.

  2. Pre-Op Testing and Clearances

Medical clearances and an upper endoscopy, called an EGD, are required. Exams through our recommended doctor return results in about 48 hours, or you can complete them at a facility nearer Miramar.

Surgery dates are often available within the current month, and the pace depends on how quickly your tests are finished.

  5. Recovery and Your First Year

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in Miramar, FL

How far is your office from Miramar, FL?

Our office is at 7330 SW 62nd Pl, Suite 210, in South Miami. Patients coming from Miramar usually drive south on Florida's Turnpike or the Palmetto Expressway. Pre-op exams can be done closer to home.

How many days will I stay in the hospital after bariatric surgery?

Most patients go home after a short stay, commonly one or two nights, and Dr. K confirms your plan before surgery. The hospital stay is included in our gastric sleeve package.

How much weight will I lose 3 months after a gastric sleeve?

Weight loss is usually fastest in the first few months after a sleeve. How much you lose depends on your starting weight, your diet and your activity. Dr. K sets realistic expectations and tracks your progress at every follow-up visit.

Is weight loss surgery worth it?

For many people with obesity, surgery produces lasting weight loss that diets and medication alone have not. Our patients often write that they wish they had started sooner. Dr. K will also tell you plainly if medical weight loss fits you better.

Can I keep taking weight loss injections before surgery?

No. Weight loss injections must be stopped at least two weeks before surgery. Tell Dr. K about every medication you take so the timing can be planned around your surgery date.

How soon can I have surgery?

Surgery dates are often available within the current month. The pace depends on how quickly your medical clearances and endoscopy are completed, and our team helps you move through each step.
