The Procedure

Bariatric Surgery in Miami for Philadelphia, PA Patients

In bariatric surgery, the stomach is made smaller, and some procedures also reroute part of the digestive tract. You feel full on much smaller portions, and hunger signals settle down. Dr. K uses minimally invasive techniques through small incisions.

Knowing the price before you book makes the trip simple to plan. PHL is about 19 minutes from Philadelphia via I-95 S, nonstop flights reach Miami International in just under 3 hours, and our South Miami office is about 17 minutes (12 miles) from MIA. Our team coordinates the logistics, from lab coordination to hotel stays, and you get one surgeon who knows your case from the first call to the last follow-up visit.

Weight Loss Procedures Dr. K Performs

There is no single bariatric operation. It is a group of procedures, and Dr. K offers surgical, endoscopic and nonsurgical options, so his recommendation is shaped by your health instead of one technique.

Candidacy

Who Is a Good Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery

The scale tells only part of the story. Dr. K considers your weight history, the health conditions linked to your weight, the approaches you have already tried and how ready you are for the eating changes that come after surgery.

  • You have struggled to keep weight off through diet, exercise or medication.
  • Your weight is linked to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or joint pain.
  • You are ready to follow a pre-surgery diet and to change how you eat for the long term.
  • You can complete medical clearances and an upper endoscopy before surgery.
  • You use a GLP-1 injection and want to know whether medication, surgery or both makes sense.

For some patients, the right first move is different, like bringing a medical condition under control. Medical weight loss or an endoscopic procedure may come first.

Why the right answer is sometimes GLP-1 medication, sometimes surgery and sometimes both.

Questions

FAQ for Patients Traveling From Philadelphia, PA

Do I need to fly to Miami for my consultation?

Not at all. Consultations are virtual, so you can meet Dr. K from home in Philadelphia. Your trip to South Miami comes later, for the surgery itself, once your plan and testing are in place.

What does a self-pay gastric sleeve cost from Philadelphia?

The gastric sleeve package is $14,000, which includes the hospital stay and first-year follow-up, and Cherry financing is available. Pricing for other procedures is reviewed at your consultation.

What disqualifies you for bariatric surgery?

Usually no one factor rules you out. Dr. K looks at your health history, current medications, medical clearances and readiness for the eating changes after surgery. When surgery is not the best first step, medical weight loss or an endoscopic procedure can come first.

Can I do my pre-surgery tests in Philadelphia?

You can. The required medical clearances and upper endoscopy can happen with us or at an outside facility closer to home. Our team lets you know which tests to complete, then reviews the results with Dr. K.

How long does it take to lose 50 pounds after weight loss surgery?

Results vary with your starting weight, the procedure you have and how closely you stick to the post-surgery diet. Weight usually drops fastest in the first months after surgery. At your consultation, Dr. K gives you a realistic estimate for your procedure.

Can I keep taking my GLP-1 injection before surgery?

GLP-1 injections have to stop at least two weeks before your operation. Dr. K can also help you decide whether medication, surgery or both suits your goals.
