The Procedure

What Is Bariatric Surgery in Sunset, FL?

Weight loss surgery reduces the size of your stomach. Some procedures also reroute part of the digestive tract. Smaller meals leave you satisfied, and hunger signals become quieter. Dr. K uses minimally invasive techniques with small incisions.

For Sunset patients, surgery happens with us in South Miami, about 15 minutes away along SW 72nd St, also known as Sunset Drive. You get one surgeon who knows your case from your first visit to your last follow-up, without a long trip.

Weight Loss Procedures Dr. K Performs

There is no single bariatric operation. Dr. K offers surgical, endoscopic and nonsurgical treatments, so the plan he suggests is based on your health, not on one preferred method.

Candidacy

Who Is a Good Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery

Being a candidate is about more than your weight today. Dr. K reviews your weight history, any health problems linked to your weight, the approaches you have tried and how ready you are for the new way of eating after surgery.

  • You have struggled to keep weight off through diet, exercise or medication.
  • Your weight is linked to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or joint pain.
  • You are ready to follow a pre-surgery diet and to change how you eat for the long term.
  • You can complete medical clearances and an upper endoscopy before surgery.
  • You use a GLP-1 injection and want to know whether medication, surgery or both makes sense.

For some patients, the best start is different, such as first bringing a medical condition under control. Medical weight loss or an endoscopic procedure may come first.

Why the right answer is sometimes GLP-1 medication, sometimes surgery and sometimes both.

How much does bariatric surgery cost in Florida?

Our gastric sleeve package is $14,000, including the hospital stay and first-year follow-up, and Cherry financing is available. Pricing for other procedures is reviewed at your consultation.

What disqualifies you for bariatric surgery?

One factor rarely rules you out on its own. Dr. K reviews your medical history, current medications, medical clearances and how prepared you are for the eating changes after surgery. If surgery is not the best place to start, medical weight loss or an endoscopic procedure can come first.

Results vary with your starting weight, your procedure and how well you follow the diet after surgery. Weight loss is usually fastest in the first few months. At your consultation, Dr. K gives you a realistic estimate for your specific procedure.

Can I keep taking my GLP-1 injection before surgery?

You need to stop them at least two weeks before your operation. Dr. K can also help you decide whether medication, surgery or a combination best fits your goals.
