Individual results vary with health, procedure and commitment to aftercare.
Bariatric surgery makes the stomach smaller and, in some procedures, changes how food moves through the intestine. A smaller stomach holds less, and it also produces less of the hunger hormone that makes diets so hard to keep. That combination is why surgery often works where years of dieting stalled.
Dr. K performs these operations laparoscopically, through a few small incisions with a camera guiding the instruments, an approach he trained in during his fellowship in laparoscopic, bariatric and robotic surgery. Endoscopic options such as ESG and the ORBERA balloon need no incisions at all.
Dr. K performs six surgical and endoscopic procedures, so the recommendation follows your health rather than a single operation.
| Procedure | How it works | Often a fit for | Typical hospital stay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gastric Sleeve | About three quarters of the stomach is removed laparoscopically, leaving a narrow sleeve that fills quickly. | Most adults seeking surgical weight loss | About one night |
| Low BMI "Mini Sleeve" | A sleeve gastrectomy planned for patients with a lower BMI. | Patients with less weight to lose whose weight still affects their health | About one night |
| Teen Gastric Sleeve | The sleeve procedure planned for adolescents, with parents part of every decision. | Teens whose weight affects their health | About one night |
| Gastric Bypass | A small stomach pouch is created and connected further down the small intestine. | Patients with severe reflux or type 2 diabetes | One to two nights |
| Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) | Sutures placed through an endoscope fold the stomach smaller, with no incisions. | Patients who want a nonsurgical option | Same day or overnight |
| ORBERA Gastric Balloon | A soft balloon placed in the stomach by endoscopy takes up space for about six months, then is removed. | Patients wanting a temporary, reversible start | Same day |
Hospital stays are typical ranges; yours depends on your health and recovery.
Candidacy is decided after Dr. K reviews your medical history, the weight loss methods you have already tried and your goals. When surgery is not the right step, ESG, the gastric balloon and medical weight loss remain on the table.
Many people we see have lost weight before and regained it. That history is not a failure; it is useful information for choosing the right procedure.

Dr. Reza Keshavarzi, known to patients as Dr. K, is the lead surgeon at Miami VIP Surgery. He performs every procedure on this page himself and gives patients his personal cell phone number, which reviewers mention again and again.

Straight answers to what Sunrise patients ask most before their first visit. Anything not covered here, Dr. K answers at your consultation.
For many people with obesity, surgery succeeds where diets have stalled, because it changes how much the stomach holds and how strongly hunger signals fire. Whether it is worth it for you depends on your health, what you have already tried and your goals. Dr. K reviews all three with you before recommending anything, including nonsurgical options.
Of the procedures we perform, gastric bypass usually involves the longest stay, typically one to two nights. A gastric sleeve often needs one night, while ESG and the ORBERA balloon are endoscopic and patients usually go home the same day or the next morning. Your own stay depends on your health and how you recover.
Our gastric sleeve package is $14,000 and covers the hospital stay, surgeon's fee, all hospital-related fees and your follow-up visits for the first year. Financing through Cherry offers 24 months at 0% interest, with monthly payments as low as $320. Pricing for other procedures is given at your consultation.
Most patients return to work 4 to 7 days after the procedure and avoid lifting more than 20 pounds while they heal. Meals become smaller and protein-focused, guided by our diet plans. Your follow-up visits continue through the first year, and Dr. K stays reachable by phone between them.
Surgery requires medical clearances and an endoscopy (EGD), and you can complete them at our office or at a facility closer to Sunrise. An endoscopy done within the last five months is accepted. Tests through our recommended doctor return results in about 48 hours.
Weight loss injections must be stopped at least two weeks before surgery. Dr. K also prescribes weight loss medications, so if injections are part of your current plan, he can decide how they fit before and after your procedure.
Surgery dates are often available within the current month. How quickly you are scheduled depends on how fast your required tests are completed, so finishing clearances early shortens the wait.
Bring your questions, your history and your goals. You will leave knowing which procedure fits, what it costs and how long preparation takes.
