Patient Results After Weight Loss Surgery

Every photo below is one of our own patients, treated by Dr. Reza Keshavarzi and followed through recovery by our team.

Results depend on the procedure, your starting point and the habits you build afterward. That is why each plan starts with a full review of your health and goals, and why follow-up visits continue long after surgery day.

How It Works

Understanding Bariatric Surgery in South Miami, FL

Bariatric surgery changes the size or route of the stomach so you feel full on far smaller portions, and in many cases it lowers the hunger signals that make diets so hard to sustain.

Most procedures we perform are minimally invasive, done through small incisions with a camera, or endoscopically through the mouth with no incisions at all. Surgery is a tool, not a finish line. Lasting weight loss comes from pairing it with a nutrition plan, regular follow-up and a team that stays involved.

Dr. Keshavarzi performs every surgical and endoscopic option on this page and also oversees medical weight loss, including GLP-1 medications. Because no single procedure is the default, your recommendation is based on your health history and goals, and some patients do best with medication and surgery used together.

Weight Loss Procedures We Offer

From a nonsurgical balloon to gastric bypass, every option is performed or overseen by the same surgeon.

ProcedureHow it worksOften a fit for
Gastric SleeveAbout 75 to 80% of the stomach is removed laparoscopically, leaving a narrow sleeve that holds less food and produces less hunger hormone.Adults with significant weight to lose who want a single, lasting procedure. An expedited path is available.
Low BMI Gastric SleeveOur "Mini Sleeve" applies the sleeve technique for patients with less weight to lose.People who fall below standard surgical criteria but still struggle with weight and related health concerns.
Teen Gastric SleeveA sleeve gastrectomy planned around a growing patient, with close nutrition and family support.Adolescents with severe obesity when supervised diet and exercise have not worked.
Gastric BypassA small stomach pouch is connected directly to the small intestine, limiting both intake and absorption.Patients with severe reflux, type 2 diabetes or more weight to lose.
Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)Sutures placed through an endoscope fold the stomach into a smaller shape, with no external incisions.Patients who want meaningful restriction without surgery on the outside of the body.
ORBERA Gastric BalloonA soft silicone balloon is placed in the stomach endoscopically and filled, then removed later.Patients who want a temporary, nonsurgical start to their weight loss.
Medical Weight LossA physician-supervised plan that can include GLP-1 injections, nutrition coaching and regular check-ins.Patients not ready for a procedure, or those who want support before or after surgery.
Candidates

Who Weight Loss Surgery Can Help

Bariatric surgery is for people whose weight is affecting their health, mobility or quality of life and who have not reached a lasting result with diet, exercise or medication alone.

Candidacy depends on more than a number on the scale. During your consultation, Dr. K reviews your medical history, current medications and goals, then explains which options fit you and which do not.

  • You have tried structured diets or programs and the weight keeps coming back.
  • You live with weight-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, reflux or joint pain.
  • You used GLP-1 injections and want a longer-lasting result, or cannot stay on them.
  • You have less weight to lose but still qualify for a low BMI sleeve, ESG or balloon.
  • You are a teen, or the parent of one, facing severe obesity that supervised programs have not solved.
  • You are ready to follow a nutrition plan and keep regular follow-up visits.

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in South Miami, FL

How long does recovery take after bariatric surgery?

Most of our gastric sleeve patients return to work 4 to 7 days after the procedure. You should avoid lifting more than 20 pounds while you heal, and you follow a staged diet as your stomach recovers. Dr. K gives you a recovery plan matched to the procedure you had.

Can I have surgery if I am taking GLP-1 weight loss injections?

Yes, many patients come to us after using GLP-1 medication. Injections must be stopped at least 2 weeks before surgery. Dr. K can also explain when medication alone, surgery alone or a combination makes sense for you.

Do I need an endoscopy before bariatric surgery?

Yes. An upper endoscopy, called an EGD, is part of preparing for surgery along with medical clearances. Dr. K can perform the EGD himself, with its cost included in the procedure price apart from a hospital fee, or you can have it done elsewhere. A recent EGD from within the last 5 months is accepted.

How soon can I schedule my surgery?

Surgery dates are often available within the same month. How quickly you reach the operating room depends mainly on how fast your required tests and clearances are completed. Our team helps you through each step, and we also offer an expedited gastric sleeve path.

What is included in the cost of gastric sleeve surgery?

Our gastric sleeve package is $14,000. It includes the hospital stay, the surgeon's fee, all hospital-related fees and your follow-up appointments for the first year after surgery. Financing through Cherry is available, including 24 months at 0% interest.

Which weight loss procedure is right for me?

That depends on your health history, your goals and how much weight you want to lose. Dr. K performs the gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, ESG and ORBERA gastric balloon and also oversees medical weight loss, so your recommendation is not limited to one procedure. Your consultation ends with a clear plan.

Do you treat patients from outside South Miami?

Yes. Patients come to our South Miami office from Coral Gables, Pinecrest, Kendall and across Miami-Dade. Required tests can be done at our clinic or at an outside facility, which makes preparation easier if you live farther away.
