Board-certified bariatric surgeon Dr. Reza Keshavarzi plans each step so Sarasota patients finish consultation, testing and preparation close to home, then travel to our South Miami office once, for surgery.
These are Dr. Keshavarzi's own patients, photographed before surgery and after. Individual results depend on starting weight, the procedure chosen and the habits kept afterward.
One patient's change, and the relief of no longer feeling stuck.
Bariatric surgery makes the stomach smaller. Meals that once took a full plate now fill you up, and the hunger hormones that pull weight back after a diet quiet down.
Dr. Keshavarzi performs surgical and nonsurgical options under one roof. Your recommendation comes from your BMI, health conditions and history, so you are not fitted to the one operation a program happens to offer.
About three quarters of the stomach is removed, leaving a narrow sleeve. Dr. K's main focus, with an expedited path for ready patients.
Gastric sleeveA sleeve for patients with a BMI of 25 to 30 whose weight still affects their health.
Mini SleeveA small pouch is joined to the small intestine, reducing both portions and absorption.
Gastric bypassThe stomach is stitched narrower from the inside through an endoscope, with no incisions on the skin.
ESGA temporary balloon fills part of the stomach while you build new eating habits. No surgery involved.
Gastric balloonSleeve surgery for adolescents ages 14 to 17, planned with the whole family.
Teen sleevePersonalized plans from our weight loss specialists, with weight loss injections when they fit.
Medical weight lossDr. K confirms candidacy after reviewing your health history. These are the situations patients most often bring to the first conversation.
Not sure surgery is the answer? Every consultation covers the nonsurgical options too.

Many Sarasota patients start by pricing monthly injections. We prescribe both medication and surgery, so Dr. K can recommend whichever serves your goals, or the two together.
| Weight loss injections | Bariatric surgery | |
|---|---|---|
| What changes | Appetite drops and food leaves the stomach more slowly while you take the medication | The stomach itself holds less, so smaller meals satisfy you |
| How long | Doses continue for as long as you and your provider plan | A single procedure, followed by lifelong eating habits |
| Usually suits | A smaller amount to lose, or a patient not ready for surgery | More weight to lose or health conditions linked to weight |
| Before surgery | Patients moving from injections to surgery stop the medication at least 2 weeks beforehand. | |
Rapid-fire with Dr. K: medication, surgery and what to eat.
The gastric sleeve has one published package price, and financing spreads it into monthly payments. Other procedures are priced at your consultation.
Your first year of follow-up is included, so the visits that keep recovery on track never arrive as a separate bill.
We accept Cherry, plus debit and credit cards for any remaining balance.Answers to what Sarasota patients ask before their first call with Dr. K.
Dr. K's reminder for life after surgery: get outside and move.
Our gastric sleeve package is $14,000. It covers your hospital stay, the surgeon's fee, all hospital-related fees and follow-up appointments for the first year. Financing through Cherry offers 0% interest for 24 months, with payments as low as $320 a month. Other procedures are priced during your consultation.
Your timing depends on how quickly your medical clearances and endoscopy are completed, not on a fixed waiting period. Once they are done, surgery dates are often available within the same month. Patients who are ready to move quickly can ask about our expedited gastric sleeve.
Plan on one trip for surgery and your hospital stay. Your first conversation with Dr. K can take place by phone or through a virtual consultation, and testing can be done with doctors near Sarasota. Dr. K schedules any in-person follow-up with you so travel stays to a minimum.
For many patients whose weight returned after diets or medication, surgery gives a more lasting result because it changes how much the stomach holds and how hungry they feel. Whether it is right for you depends on your health and your readiness to eat differently afterward. Dr. K will also tell you when a nonsurgical option fits better.
Yes, if it was performed within the last 5 months. If Dr. Keshavarzi performs your endoscopy instead, the procedure is included in your surgery cost and a $750 hospital fee applies.
Most patients return to work 4 to 7 days after their procedure. For the first weeks you should not lift more than 20 pounds, and you follow the diet stages our team gives you. Our diet plans are available on our website.
Share what you have already tried. You will finish the first conversation knowing which procedures suit you, which steps you can complete near Sarasota and when surgery could realistically happen.
