What Is Bariatric Surgery in North Port, FL

Bariatric surgery changes the size of the stomach, and with it the hunger signals that make diets hard to sustain. Most patients eat smaller meals, feel full sooner and lose weight steadily through the first year.

Dr. Keshavarzi performs surgical and nonsurgical procedures, so your recommendation follows your health history rather than the single operation a program happens to offer.

  • Gastric Sleeve

Most of the stomach is removed, leaving a slim tube that fills quickly. Dr. K's specialty, with an expedited option.

When Weight Loss Surgery Is Worth Considering

Candidacy is decided after Dr. K reviews your health history. Most patients recognize themselves in at least one of these.

  • Diets, exercise or medication worked for a while, then the weight came back
  • Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or joint pain tied to your weight
  • A lower BMI with weight that still affects your health, a fit for the Mini Sleeve
  • A teen ages 14 to 17 whose weight is already affecting health
  • Progress on GLP-1 injections has stalled, or you want a longer-term plan
  • Readiness for a pre-surgery diet and a new way of eating afterward

Unsure where you fit? Nonsurgical options are part of every first conversation with Dr. K.

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in North Port, FL

What North Port patients ask most before their first conversation with Dr. K.

Do I need a referral for bariatric surgery?

You can request a consultation with Dr. K directly from this page. Your own physicians still play a part, because medical clearances are required before surgery and they can be completed with doctors close to North Port.

How many trips to Miami will I need from North Port, FL?

Plan on the trip for surgery and your hospital stay. The consultation can be virtual and testing can be done near home, and Dr. K sets the schedule for any in-person follow-up with you.

Is weight loss surgery worth it?

It depends on your health, your history with other approaches and your readiness to change how you eat. For many patients whose weight returned after diets or medication, surgery offers more durable weight loss. Dr. K will tell you whether surgery or a nonsurgical option fits you better.

What should I avoid after bariatric surgery?

In the first weeks, avoid lifting more than 20 pounds and do not skip ahead in the diet stages our team gives you. Meals move from liquids toward small, protein-focused portions, and our diet plans are available on our website. Our team answers questions by phone and text.

Can I use an endoscopy I already had?

Yes, as long as it was performed within the last 5 months. If Dr. Keshavarzi performs it instead, the procedure is included in your surgery cost and a $750 hospital fee applies.

How soon can I have surgery?

Timing depends on how quickly your tests and clearances are completed. Once they are in, surgery dates are often available within the same month, and we offer an expedited gastric sleeve for patients who are ready to move quickly.
