Dr. Reza Keshavarzi, a board-certified bariatric surgeon, narrows your stomach with sutures placed through the mouth, then stays reachable on his own cell phone from your first visit through recovery.

ESG makes the stomach smaller from the inside. Under general anesthesia, Dr. K passes a flexible endoscope through the mouth and places full-thickness sutures along the stomach wall, then cinches them to fold the stomach into a narrow, sleeve-shaped tube.
A smaller stomach fills on smaller portions, so fullness arrives sooner and lasts longer. The eating habits you build with our team turn that fullness into lasting weight loss.
Patients from Miami Gardens see Dr. K at our South Miami office for every visit.
ESG is for adults living with obesity who want a real change to the stomach without an operation. Dr. K confirms candidacy after reviewing your health and goals.
You have lost weight with diets and regained it. ESG adds a physical limit on portion size.
You want a smaller stomach without cuts on your abdomen or any stomach tissue taken out.
Blood pressure, blood sugar, sleep apnea or joint pain are tied to your weight.
You lost weight on injections and want a longer-term tool as you taper off.
With more weight to lose, a sleeve or bypass may serve you better. Closer to your goal, the low BMI Mini Sleeve or a nonsurgical plan may be enough. Dr. K offers each of these.
Dr. K performs all three, so the recommendation you hear depends on your health rather than on which procedure an office happens to offer.
| ESG | Gastric sleeve | ORBERA gastric balloon | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it is done | Endoscope through the mouth, sutures placed inside the stomach | Laparoscopic surgery through small abdominal incisions | Endoscope places a soft balloon in the stomach |
| Stomach tissue | Folded and kept whole | Most of the stomach is removed | Untouched; the balloon fills space |
| Incisions | None | Several small ones | None |
| How long it lasts | Sutures stay in place and can be revised later | Not reversible, since tissue is removed | Temporary, removed after a set period |
| Weight loss | Generally less than a sleeve, shaped by your habits | Generally the most of the three | A short-term start while the balloon is in |
A fourth path: medical weight loss with GLP-1 injections, alone or paired with a procedure.
ESG is newer than the gastric sleeve, so patients often arrive with mixed information. These are the misunderstandings we hear most.
It changes the stomach itself, but lasting weight loss still depends on the staged diet, regular check-ins and the habits you build with our team.
Injections stop at least 2 weeks before the procedure. Afterward, Dr. K decides whether medication belongs in your plan.
Because the stomach is left whole, ESG can be tightened or converted to a gastric sleeve, and Dr. K performs both.

Board-certified bariatric surgeon and our lead surgeon
Patients call him Dr. K. He completed his surgical residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital and a fellowship in laparoscopic, bariatric and robotic surgery at Jackson South Medical Center, and he is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
He also performs the sleeve, bypass, Mini Sleeve and ORBERA balloon, so he can say plainly when ESG fits and when it does not. After your procedure he stays in touch from his own cell phone, a detail patients mention often in reviews.
Our team supports you through each step of preparation.
Dr. K reviews your weight history, medications and goals, then explains whether ESG fits.
You complete medical clearances and an upper endoscopy, or EGD, with us or at a facility you choose.
A required diet prepares your body, and our team confirms any medication changes with you.
Under general anesthesia, Dr. K places the sutures through the endoscope. There are no incisions to close.
Most patients return to work in 4 to 7 days, with no lifting over 20 lbs early on.
These reviews come from patients across Dr. K's procedures. The same team and diet guidance support every ESG patient.

Your ESG price depends on your health, the testing you still need and your plan, so Dr. K quotes it once he confirms ESG is right for you. We can email your pricing to review at home.

Cherry is accepted for your procedure, and debit and credit cards cover any remaining balance. See our financing details.
Results depend on your starting weight, your health and the habits you keep afterward. In general, weight loss after ESG is smaller than after a gastric sleeve, and Dr. K gives you a realistic expectation at your consultation.
ESG is an endoscopic procedure rather than an open or laparoscopic operation. Nothing is cut on the abdomen and no part of the stomach is removed. It is still performed under general anesthesia by a bariatric surgeon.
Your diet moves in stages, from liquids to purees and soft foods, before regular meals return. Many patients use the 20-20-20 habit as a guide: take about 20 minutes for each meal, chew every bite around 20 times and wait roughly 20 seconds between bites. Our diet plans set the details for each stage.
ESG and the ORBERA gastric balloon are both done through the mouth with no incisions, and neither removes stomach tissue. The balloon is temporary, while ESG sutures stay in place.
Your consultation and follow-up visits take place at our office at 7330 SW 62nd Pl, Suite 210, in South Miami. From Miami Gardens it is a drive south on the Palmetto Expressway. We are open Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm.
Scheduling depends mainly on how quickly your clearances and tests are completed. Labs through our recommended doctor return within 48 hours, and dates are often available within the current month.
