What Gastric Sleeve Means for Key Largo, FL Patients

A gastric sleeve, or sleeve gastrectomy, removes most of the stomach and leaves a narrow sleeve, so smaller meals fill you sooner and hunger usually drops. Dr. Keshavarzi performs it laparoscopically, through a few small incisions with a camera and fine instruments.

About 80%of the stomach is removed, including the part that makes most hunger hormone
Small incisionsfor a laparoscopic operation rather than one large open cut
4 to 7 daysis when most of our patients return to work
1 yearof follow-up visits included in the package price

Patients from Key Largo and the Upper Keys see Dr. K at our South Miami office, roughly an hour north on US-1. Learn more on our main gastric sleeve page.

Who the Gastric Sleeve Helps Most

Dr. Keshavarzi recommends the sleeve after reviewing your weight history and health conditions. It often suits adults who:

  • Have tried diets and medication without results that last
  • Live with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol
  • Have sleep apnea or joint pain made worse by extra weight
  • Want one operation with no implanted device or rerouted intestine
  • Are ready for a new eating plan and regular follow-up visits

Patients with a lower BMI may fit our Low BMI Mini Sleeve, and adolescents are seen through our Teen Gastric Sleeve program.

FAQ About Gastric Sleeve in Key Largo, FL

How much does a gastric sleeve cost for Key Largo, FL patients?

Our gastric sleeve package is $14,000. It includes your hospital stay, the surgeon's fee, hospital-related fees and follow-up appointments for the first year after surgery. Financing through Cherry offers 24 months at 0% interest, with monthly payments as low as $320.

How much weight will I lose 3 months after a gastric sleeve?

It depends on your starting weight and how closely you follow the eating plan. Weight usually comes off fastest in the first months; one of our patients wrote in her Google review that she was 60 lbs down at 4 months post-op. Dr. K will talk through realistic goals for you at your consultation.

Where is the surgery done, and how far is it from Key Largo?

Your visits with Dr. K are at our office at 7330 SW 62nd Pl, Suite 210, in South Miami, roughly an hour north of Key Largo on US-1. The surgery itself takes place in the hospital, and the hospital stay is part of the package price.

Can I do my pre-op tests closer to home in the Keys?

Yes. Medical clearances and an upper endoscopy (EGD) are required before surgery, and you can have them done with us or at an outside facility. An endoscopy performed within the last 5 months is accepted.

Do I need to stop weight loss injections before surgery?

Yes. Weight loss injections must be stopped at least 2 weeks before your gastric sleeve. Tell Dr. K about every medication you take so he can plan your preparation with you.

How soon can I go back to work after a gastric sleeve?

Most of our patients return to work 4 to 7 days after the procedure. You should not lift anything heavier than 20 lbs during early recovery, so a physical job may need a longer break.

Is a gastric sleeve reversible?

No. About 80 percent of the stomach is removed and cannot be put back, which is why the decision starts with a full consultation. If you want a procedure with no stomach removal, ask Dr. K about the endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty or the gastric balloon.
