Your medication and nutrition plan is run by Dr. Reza Keshavarzi, a board-certified bariatric surgeon who also performs every procedure himself, so you never have to switch doctors if you need more help.
Medical weight loss is a weight plan prescribed and monitored by a physician, built on your labs, your health history and the way your body responds.
Every plan at our office is overseen by Dr. Keshavarzi and put together by our weight loss team around your goals. Four parts work together, and the mix changes as you lose.
Your weight history, current medications and conditions such as blood pressure or blood sugar problems shape what is safe to prescribe.
Tests can be done at our clinic or a facility you choose. Results from our recommended doctor usually arrive within 48 hours.
When you qualify, GLP-1 class weight loss injections reduce appetite. Dr. K chooses the medication and raises the dose in steps.
Our diet plans set protein and portion targets you can follow at home, with movement goals that match your fitness today.
Body mass index is the starting measure, though Dr. K also weighs your health conditions, past attempts and goals before recommending a plan.
Many Broward patients start injections through an app and are left without follow-up. Bring your medication history to your consultation. Dr. K will review your dose, your labs and your progress and tell you whether to continue, adjust or change course.
If medication is not enough, he can talk you through the gastric balloon or a low BMI gastric sleeve, both of which he performs.
Online prescriptions are convenient, and convenience alone does not tell you who is watching your progress. Here is how a surgeon-led plan at our office differs from a typical online-only service.
| Our Medical Weight Loss Plan | Typical Online-Only Service | |
|---|---|---|
| Who decides | Dr. Keshavarzi, a board-certified bariatric surgeon | A licensed prescriber you may never see twice |
| Before prescribing | Health review and labs, with results in about 48 hours | Often a questionnaire and a short virtual visit |
| Nutrition | Our own diet plans built into every program | Varies, often limited to general tips |
| Between visits | Reply to our text messages for guidance on next steps | Usually a portal or chat queue |
| If medication is not enough | Same doctor performs the ESG, balloon and gastric sleeve | A referral elsewhere, starting over with a new doctor |

MD, FACS, FASMBS · Board-Certified Bariatric Surgeon
Dr. Keshavarzi, known to patients as Dr. K, is the lead surgeon at Miami VIP Surgery and oversees our medical weight loss program. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
After earning his medical degree with High Distinction from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, he completed his surgical residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital and a fellowship in laparoscopic, bariatric and robotic surgery at Jackson South Medical Center. Because he treats weight with medication, endoscopy and surgery, his advice on which path fits you is not tied to one treatment.

Fort Lauderdale patients see Dr. K at our South Miami office. The pace of each stage depends on your health and your goals.
You go over your weight history, what has and has not worked and what you want to change. You leave knowing which options suit you.
Lab work at our clinic or a facility near you in Broward. Dr. K reviews the results before anything is prescribed.
You begin your diet plan and, when it is right for you, a starting dose of medication with clear meal and protein targets.
Follow-ups adjust your dose and plan as you lose. Between visits, reply to our texts for guidance on what to do next.
Many patients tell us the approach that worked at 30 stopped working at 45. The reasons are physical, and each one changes how we build the plan.
Muscle mass declines each decade, so you burn fewer calories at rest.
Higher protein targets and strength work protect muscle while you lose fat.
Hormone shifts, including menopause, can raise appetite and move weight to the waist.
Appetite-reducing medication may help when diet alone is not holding.
More patients take daily medications for blood pressure, cholesterol or blood sugar.
Dr. K reviews every prescription first and tracks those conditions as your weight drops.
Crash diets cost more muscle and are harder to recover from.
We aim for steady loss you can keep, rather than the fastest number on the scale.
"Mari was also a lot of help, she explained the diet thoroughly and was always happy to help."Mikey M., Google review

Your cost depends on whether medication is part of your plan, which medication suits you, the lab work you need and how often you are seen. We give you the full price of your plan at your consultation, before you commit.
Financing is available, and our team explains your options during your visit.
Payment plans through CherryA clinic is as safe as its medical oversight. Look for a physician who reviews your health history and medications before prescribing, orders labs when they are needed and sees you again to adjust the plan. At our office, every medical weight loss plan is overseen by Dr. Keshavarzi, a board-certified bariatric surgeon.
Class III obesity means a body mass index of 40 or higher. At that level, weight is more likely to affect blood pressure, blood sugar, sleep and joints. Medication can still be part of the plan, and Dr. K will also explain whether a procedure such as a gastric sleeve would give you a better chance at lasting results.
Appetite often returns once the medication stops, and many people regain some weight if nothing else has changed. That is why your plan builds eating and activity habits from the first month. When it is time to taper or stop, Dr. K plans that step with you and keeps following your weight.
Yes. Dr. K performs the gastric balloon, endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty and gastric sleeve himself, so you stay with the same doctor if you decide you need more help. Weight loss injections must be stopped at least 2 weeks before surgery, and he times that switch for you.
It depends on your starting point and whether medication is part of your plan. GLP-1 doses are usually raised in steps over the first weeks, so loss tends to start gradually and build over several months. Each follow-up tracks your progress and changes the plan when your weight stalls.
It can. Medication, a structured eating plan and regular follow-up often help patients get back on track after a sleeve or bypass. Dr. K reviews your surgical history first, because the right next step for regain is different for every patient.
Your first step is a conversation with the doctor who will oversee your plan from the first visit on. Fort Lauderdale patients are welcome at our South Miami office.
