The Procedure

How Gastric Sleeve Surgery Works

A sleeve gastrectomy removes about 80 percent of the stomach and leaves a narrow, banana-shaped tube. Dr. Keshavarzi performs it laparoscopically, through a few small incisions guided by a camera.

01

Smaller Portions

The new stomach holds far less, so you feel full after a few bites.

02

Quieter Hunger

The removed section makes much of the hormone that drives appetite, so many patients feel less hungry.

03

No Rerouting

Unlike a bypass, the intestine stays in place. Food follows its usual path through a smaller stomach.

Questions

FAQ About Gastric Sleeve in Fort Lauderdale, FL

What Broward patients ask us most.

Rapid-fire questions with Dr. K.

Do I need to travel to South Miami for every visit?

Your consultation, surgery and follow-up visits are at our South Miami office. Testing can be done near you in Broward, and Dr. K stays reachable by phone and text between visits.

Does insurance pay for gastric sleeve surgery?

It depends on the plan and its medical criteria, so the answer is individual. We review pricing, the $14,000 package and Cherry financing with you at your consultation.

Do you lose weight faster with a gastric sleeve or a bypass?

Both lead to substantial weight loss over the first year, and for most patients the difference in pace is modest. Dr. Keshavarzi performs both and recommends the one that suits your health history.

What is the 20-20-20 rule for eating after gastric sleeve surgery?

It is a reminder to eat slowly: small bites, chewed thoroughly, with meals stretched to about 20 minutes so you notice fullness. Our team gives you a staged diet plan for each phase after surgery.

Is it better to have a gastric sleeve abroad?

The year after surgery matters as much as the operation. Having your sleeve in South Florida keeps your surgeon a drive away, and our package includes a full year of follow-up.

How soon can I schedule my gastric sleeve?

Timing depends mostly on how quickly you finish your clearances and endoscopy. Once testing is done, dates are often available within the same month.
