The Procedure

What Is Bariatric Surgery in Cutler Bay, FL?

Weight loss surgery reduces the size of the stomach. Some procedures also reroute part of the digestive tract. Smaller portions then leave you satisfied, and hunger signals ease. Dr. K uses minimally invasive techniques with small incisions.

Your surgery happens with us in South Miami, about 20 minutes from Cutler Bay by Florida's Turnpike and FL-874 N. That short drive gives you one surgeon close to home who knows your case from your first conversation to your last follow-up visit.

Weight Loss Procedures Dr. K Performs

There is no single bariatric operation. It is a group of procedures, and Dr. K offers surgical, endoscopic and nonsurgical choices. Your recommendation is shaped by your health, not by one preferred technique.

Candidacy

Who Is a Good Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery

Your weight alone does not decide whether surgery is right for you. Dr. K reviews your weight history, any health conditions linked to your weight, the approaches you have already tried and how ready you are for the new way of eating after surgery.

  • You have struggled to keep weight off through diet, exercise or medication.
  • Your weight is linked to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or joint pain.
  • You are ready to follow a pre-surgery diet and to change how you eat for the long term.
  • You can complete medical clearances and an upper endoscopy before surgery.
  • You use a GLP-1 injection and want to know whether medication, surgery or both makes sense.

For some patients, the right starting point is different, like bringing a medical condition under control. In that case, an endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss may come before surgery.

Why the right answer is sometimes GLP-1 medication, sometimes surgery and sometimes both.

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in Cutler Bay, FL

Can I visit the office or meet by video first?

Either works. You can come to our South Miami office, about 20 minutes from Cutler Bay, or start with a virtual consultation from home. Pre-op visits, surgery and follow-ups all stay close by.

How much does bariatric surgery cost in Florida?

Our gastric sleeve package is $14,000, including the hospital stay and first-year follow-up, and Cherry financing is available. Pricing for other procedures is reviewed at your consultation.

What disqualifies you for bariatric surgery?

A single factor rarely rules you out. Dr. K looks at your health history, the medications you take, your medical clearances and how prepared you are for the eating changes after surgery. When surgery is not the best place to start, an endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss may come first.

Can I do my pre-surgery tests near Cutler Bay?

Yes. Your medical clearances and upper endoscopy can be done with us in South Miami or at an outside facility closer to home. Our team lists the tests you need and goes over the results with Dr. K.

How long does it take to lose 50 pounds after weight loss surgery?

That varies with your starting weight, your procedure and how well you stick to the post-surgery diet. Weight loss is usually quickest in the first months. At your consultation, Dr. K gives you a realistic estimate for your procedure.

Can I keep taking my GLP-1 injection before surgery?

You need to stop them at least two weeks before your operation. Dr. K can also help you decide whether medication, surgery or a combination suits your goals.
