The Procedure

What Is Bariatric Surgery in Bal Harbour, FL?

These procedures reduce the size of your stomach. Some also reroute part of the digestive tract. The result is that smaller portions fill you up and hunger becomes quieter. Dr. K uses minimally invasive techniques, working through small incisions.

Our South Miami office is about 45 minutes from Bal Harbour, roughly 27 miles via FL-836 W. Whether you live along Collins Avenue or in nearby Surfside or Bay Harbor Islands, one surgeon follows your case from the first talk to the last follow-up visit.

Candidacy

Who Is a Good Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery

Your weight alone does not decide whether surgery is right for you. Dr. K reviews your weight history, the health problems linked to your weight, the approaches you have already tried and how ready you are for the new eating habits surgery requires.

  • You have struggled to keep weight off through diet, exercise or medication.
  • Your weight is linked to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or joint pain.
  • You are ready to follow a pre-surgery diet and to change how you eat for the long term.
  • You can complete medical clearances and an upper endoscopy before surgery.
  • You use a GLP-1 injection and want to know whether medication, surgery or both makes sense.

For some people, another step makes sense first, like bringing a health condition under control. You might begin with an endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss.

Why the right answer is sometimes GLP-1 medication, sometimes surgery and sometimes both.

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in Bal Harbour, FL

Can I visit the office for my consultation or do it by video?

Both options work. You can come to our South Miami office, about 45 minutes from Bal Harbour, or meet Dr. K by video from home. Surgery takes place with us in South Miami once your plan and testing are ready.

How much does bariatric surgery cost in Florida?

Our gastric sleeve package is $14,000, including the hospital stay and first-year follow-up, and Cherry financing is available. Pricing for other procedures is reviewed at your consultation.

What disqualifies you for bariatric surgery?

A single factor rarely rules you out. Dr. K looks at your medical history, the medications you take, your clearances and how prepared you are for life after surgery. When surgery is not the best place to start, you can begin with an endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss.

Can I do my pre-surgery tests near Bal Harbour?

Yes. You can complete the required clearances and upper endoscopy with us or at an outside facility closer to home. Our team explains which tests you need and goes over the results with Dr. K.

How long does it take to lose 50 pounds after weight loss surgery?

That varies with your starting weight, your procedure and how well you stick to the diet after surgery. Most weight loss tends to happen in the early months. At your consultation, Dr. K gives you an honest estimate based on your procedure.

Can I keep taking my GLP-1 injection before surgery?

You need to stop them at least two weeks before your operation. Dr. K can also help you decide if medication, surgery or a combination is the best fit for your goals.
