Gastric sleeve, 1 of 5
A gastric sleeve, also called a sleeve gastrectomy, removes most of the stomach and leaves a narrow tube about the size of a banana. Dr. K performs it laparoscopically, through a few small incisions with a camera guiding the instruments.
The smaller stomach fills quickly, and the section that is removed makes much of the hormone that drives hunger, so many patients feel satisfied on small portions. Nothing is rerouted and no device is left in the body. You can read more on our main gastric sleeve page.

Dr. K decides candidacy with you at the consultation, based on your health and your goals. The sleeve tends to suit patients who:
Patients with a lower BMI may fit our Low BMI Mini Sleeve, and teens 14 to 17 can be evaluated for the Teen Gastric Sleeve. Dr. K also offers endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty and gastric bypass when a different route fits better.
Our office is about 150 miles up the Overseas Highway from Key West. Much of the preparation can happen closer to home, so your trips north are planned around surgery and the visits that need you here.
Medical clearances and your EGD can be done at a facility you choose.
An EGD done within the last five months still counts.
Dr. K gives patients his cell number for questions along the way.
Tests with our recommended doctor come back within two days.
Here is what happens from your first conversation with Dr. K to your first year after surgery.
He reviews your weight history, what you have tried and your goals, then recommends the procedure that fits.
Required tests can be done with our team or elsewhere, and your date is set once they are complete.
A required pre-op diet prepares your body, and GLP-1 injections stop at least two weeks before surgery.
Dr. K performs the sleeve laparoscopically, and your hospital stay is part of the package.
Most patients return to work within 4 to 7 days and avoid lifting more than 20 pounds while healing.
Follow-up visits for the first year are included, with diet plans for each stage.

Gastric sleeve surgery with Dr. K is one $14,000 package, the same for Key West patients as for patients from Miami. Hospital charges are part of it, so they do not arrive as a separate bill.
If Dr. K performs your EGD, the endoscopy itself is included in the package, with a $750 hospital fee.

Financing through Cherry offers 0% interest for 24 months, with monthly payments as low as $320.
A gastric sleeve with us is one $14,000 package, so the hospital stay and follow-up visits are not billed separately. When you compare quotes from other surgeons, check whether those items are part of the price or added later. Cherry financing can spread the cost over 24 months.
Dr. K looks at your overall health, your weight history and whether surgery can be done safely for you. Patients also need to commit to the diet changes before and after surgery. If the standard sleeve is not the right match, he may suggest the Low BMI Mini Sleeve, an endoscopic option or medical weight loss instead.
It varies with starting weight, health and how closely you follow the eating plan, so Dr. K gives you a personal estimate at your consultation. One patient's review mentions being 60 pounds down at four months post-op. Weight loss is usually fastest in the first months and continues more slowly through the first year.
The sleeve is not reversible, because the removed part of the stomach is taken out during surgery. Portions stay much smaller than before, so patients learn to eat slowly, put protein first and sip fluids between meals rather than with food. Our diet plans walk you through each stage after surgery.
Surgery and your hospital stay take place in South Miami. Medical clearances and your EGD can be done with our team or at a facility closer to home, and our staff supports you through each step of preparation.
Yes. GLP-1 injections such as semaglutide or tirzepatide must be stopped at least two weeks before your surgery date. Our team includes this in your pre-surgery plan, along with the required pre-op diet.
Surgery dates are often available within the same month. The timing depends on how quickly your required tests are complete, and results from our recommended doctor come back within 48 hours.
