The Procedure

Bariatric Surgery in Miami for Scarsdale, NY Patients

Weight loss surgery reduces the size of the stomach, and some procedures also reroute part of the digestive tract. Smaller meals leave you satisfied, and hunger tends to ease. Dr. K uses minimally invasive techniques with small incisions.

When your weeks are booked solid, one trip is easier to protect than several. Surgery takes place in our South Miami office. From Scarsdale, Westchester County Airport is about 17 minutes via I-684 N without traffic, and nonstop flights from LaGuardia or JFK reach Miami International in about 3 hours. We are about 17 minutes from MIA.

Candidacy

Who Is a Good Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery

Your weight alone does not decide whether surgery is right. Dr. K considers how your weight has changed over time, related health conditions, the approaches you have tried and how prepared you are for new eating habits after surgery.

  • You have struggled to keep weight off through diet, exercise or medication.
  • Your weight is linked to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or joint pain.
  • You are ready to follow a pre-surgery diet and to change how you eat for the long term.
  • You can complete medical clearances and an upper endoscopy before surgery.
  • You use a GLP-1 injection and want to know whether medication, surgery or both makes sense.

For some people, another step makes more sense first, like bringing a health condition under control. Medical weight loss or an endoscopic procedure may come before surgery.

Why the right answer is sometimes GLP-1 medication, sometimes surgery and sometimes both.

Questions

FAQ for Patients Traveling From Scarsdale, NY

Do I need to fly to Miami for my consultation?

Not for that step. Consultations are virtual, so you can speak with Dr. K from home. The trip to South Miami is for surgery, after your plan and testing are complete.

What does a gastric sleeve cost if I am paying myself?

Our gastric sleeve package is $14,000. It includes the hospital stay and first-year follow-up, and Cherry financing is available. Other procedures are priced at your consultation.

What disqualifies you for bariatric surgery?

Seldom does one factor rule you out. Dr. K looks at your medical history, current medications, clearances and readiness for life after surgery. When surgery is not the best place to start, medical weight loss or an endoscopic procedure can come first.

Can I do my pre-surgery tests near Scarsdale?

Yes, you can. The required clearances and upper endoscopy can be done with us or at an outside facility closer to home. Our team explains which tests you need and reviews the results with Dr. K.

How long does it take to lose 50 pounds after weight loss surgery?

That varies with your starting weight, your procedure and how well you stick to the post-surgery diet. Loss is usually quickest in the early months. At your consultation, Dr. K gives you a realistic estimate for your specific procedure.

Can I keep taking my GLP-1 injection before surgery?

Injections need to stop at least two weeks before your operation. Dr. K can also help you decide whether medication, surgery or a combination suits your goals.
