The Procedure

Bariatric Surgery in Miami for New Canaan, CT Patients

Bariatric surgery reduces the size of the stomach. Some procedures also reroute part of the digestive tract. The result is that smaller meals fill you up and hunger signals ease. Dr. K uses minimally invasive techniques, working through small incisions.

Nearly all of the planning happens from home, so the travel comes down to one trip. Westchester County Airport is about 27 minutes from New Canaan via CT-15 S, the Merritt Parkway, without traffic. LaGuardia and JFK also offer nonstop flights to Miami, about 3 hours in the air. You get one surgeon who knows your case from start to finish.

Weight Loss Procedures Dr. K Performs

There is no single bariatric operation. It is a group of procedures. Dr. K offers surgical, endoscopic and nonsurgical choices, so your recommendation is shaped by your health, not by one preferred method.

Candidacy

Who Is a Good Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery

Your weight alone does not decide whether you qualify. Dr. K reviews your weight history, any health conditions linked to your weight, the approaches you have already tried and how ready you are for the new way of eating after surgery.

  • You have struggled to keep weight off through diet, exercise or medication.
  • Your weight is linked to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or joint pain.
  • You are ready to follow a pre-surgery diet and to change how you eat for the long term.
  • You can complete medical clearances and an upper endoscopy before surgery.
  • You use a GLP-1 injection and want to know whether medication, surgery or both makes sense.

For some people, surgery is not the right place to start. A medical condition may need to be managed first, and an endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss can come before anything else.

Why the right answer is sometimes GLP-1 medication, sometimes surgery and sometimes both.

Questions

FAQ for Patients Traveling From New Canaan, CT

Do I need to fly to Miami for my consultation?

Not at all. Consultations are virtual, so you can talk with Dr. K from home. Your trip to South Miami is for the surgery itself, after your plan and testing are complete.

What does a gastric sleeve cost if I am paying myself?

The gastric sleeve package is $14,000 and includes your hospital stay and first-year follow-up. Cherry financing is available. Costs for other procedures are reviewed at your consultation.

What disqualifies you for bariatric surgery?

A single factor seldom rules you out. Dr. K looks at your health history, the medications you take, your medical clearances and how prepared you are for the eating changes after surgery. When surgery is not the best place to begin, an endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss can come first.

Can I do my pre-surgery tests near New Canaan, CT?

You can. The required medical clearances and upper endoscopy can be completed with us or at an outside facility closer to home. Our team lets you know which tests you need and goes over the results with Dr. K.

How long does it take to lose 50 pounds after weight loss surgery?

Results vary with your starting weight, your procedure and how carefully you stick to the post-surgery diet. Most people lose weight fastest in the first few months. At your consultation, Dr. K gives you a realistic estimate for your specific procedure.

Can I keep taking my GLP-1 injection before surgery?

Stopping them at least two weeks before surgery is required. Dr. K can also help you decide whether medication, surgery or a combination suits your goals.
