The Procedure

Bariatric Surgery in Miami for Bronxville, NY Patients

Bariatric surgery reduces the size of the stomach. Some procedures also reroute part of the digestive tract. Smaller meals leave you satisfied, and hunger tends to ease. Dr. K uses minimally invasive techniques with small incisions.

With your testing handled near home and results back within 48 hours, the trip south is mostly about surgery. From Bronxville, LaGuardia is about 25 minutes away via the Hutchinson River Parkway South and I-678 South. The nonstop flight to Miami International takes about 3 hours, and our South Miami office is about 17 minutes from the airport.

Candidacy

Who Is a Good Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery

Your weight alone does not decide whether surgery is right for you. Dr. K considers your weight history, any health problems linked to it, the methods you have tried before and how ready you are for the new way of eating after surgery.

  • You have struggled to keep weight off through diet, exercise or medication.
  • Your weight is linked to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or joint pain.
  • You are ready to follow a pre-surgery diet and to change how you eat for the long term.
  • You can complete medical clearances and an upper endoscopy before surgery.
  • You use a GLP-1 injection and want to know whether medication, surgery or both makes sense.

For some people, the best start is something else, like bringing a health condition under control. Medical weight loss or an endoscopic procedure may come first.

Why the right answer is sometimes GLP-1 medication, sometimes surgery and sometimes both.

Questions

FAQ for Patients Traveling From Bronxville, NY

Do I need to fly to Miami for my consultation?

Not at all. Consultations are virtual, so you can meet Dr. K from home. Most patients make one trip to South Miami, for the surgery itself, once the plan and testing are ready.

What will bariatric surgery cost me as a self-pay patient?

The gastric sleeve package is $14,000 and includes the hospital stay and first-year follow-up. Cherry financing is available. We review pricing for other procedures at your consultation.

What disqualifies you for bariatric surgery?

Usually no one factor rules you out. Dr. K looks at your medical history, the medications you take, your clearances and how prepared you are for life after surgery. When surgery should wait, medical weight loss or an endoscopic procedure can be the first step.

Can I do my pre-surgery tests near Bronxville, NY?

You can. The required clearances and upper endoscopy can be done with us or at an outside facility closer to home. Our team lists the tests you need and goes over the results with Dr. K.

How long does it take to lose 50 pounds after weight loss surgery?

That varies with your starting weight, your procedure and how carefully you stick to the diet after surgery. The quickest loss usually happens in the early months. At your consultation, Dr. K shares a realistic expectation for your procedure.

Can I keep taking my GLP-1 injection before surgery?

Weight loss injections need to stop at least two weeks before your operation. Dr. K can help you decide if medication, surgery or a mix of both suits your goals.
