The Procedure

What Is Bariatric Surgery in Palmetto Bay, FL?

Bariatric surgery reduces the size of your stomach. Some procedures also reroute part of the digestive tract. Smaller portions then fill you up, and hunger signals settle down. Dr. K uses minimally invasive techniques with small incisions.

If you live in Palmetto Bay, your surgery happens with us in South Miami. The office is about 15 minutes away, roughly 8 miles via SW 77th Ave/Palmetto Rd. You get one surgeon who knows your case from the first conversation to the last follow-up, all close to home.

Weight Loss Procedures Dr. K Performs

There is no single bariatric operation. The term covers several procedures, and Dr. K offers surgical, endoscopic and nonsurgical choices. Your recommendation is based on your health, not on one technique.

Candidacy

Who Is a Good Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery

A scale reading alone does not decide whether you qualify. Dr. K reviews your weight history, any health conditions linked to your weight, the approaches you have already tried and how ready you are for the new way of eating after surgery.

  • You have struggled to keep weight off through diet, exercise or medication.
  • Your weight is linked to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or joint pain.
  • You are ready to follow a pre-surgery diet and to change how you eat for the long term.
  • You can complete medical clearances and an upper endoscopy before surgery.
  • You use a GLP-1 injection and want to know whether medication, surgery or both makes sense.

For some people, surgery is not the right place to start. A medical condition may need attention first, and an endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss can come before surgery.

Why the right answer is sometimes GLP-1 medication, sometimes surgery and sometimes both.

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in Palmetto Bay, FL

Can I visit the office or do my first consult by video?

Either works. You can see Dr. K at our South Miami office, about 15 minutes from Palmetto Bay, or start with a virtual consultation from home. Once your plan and testing are in place, pre-op visits, surgery and follow-ups all stay close to home.

How much does bariatric surgery cost in Florida?

Our gastric sleeve package is $14,000, including the hospital stay and first-year follow-up, and Cherry financing is available. Pricing for other procedures is reviewed at your consultation.

What disqualifies you for bariatric surgery?

A single factor rarely rules you out. Dr. K looks at your health history, the medications you take, your medical clearances and how prepared you are for the eating changes after surgery. When surgery is not the best place to start, an endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss can come first.

Can I do my pre-surgery tests near Palmetto Bay?

Yes. You can complete the required medical clearances and upper endoscopy with us in South Miami or at an outside facility closer to home. Our team tells you which tests you need and goes over the results with Dr. K.

How long does it take to lose 50 pounds after weight loss surgery?

Results vary with your starting weight, your procedure and how carefully you stick to the post-surgery diet. Weight loss is usually fastest in the first months after surgery. At your consultation, Dr. K gives you a realistic estimate for your procedure.

Can I keep taking my GLP-1 injection before surgery?

You need to stop them at least two weeks before your operation. Dr. K can also help you decide whether medication, surgery or both suits your goals.
