The Procedure

What Is Bariatric Surgery in Bay Harbor Islands, FL?

Bariatric surgery reduces the size of your stomach. Some procedures also reroute part of the digestive tract. Smaller portions fill you up, and hunger becomes easier to manage. Dr. K uses minimally invasive techniques with small incisions.

If you live in Bay Harbor Islands, your surgery happens with us in South Miami, about 40 minutes away by car via FL-836 W. That short drive means one surgeon follows your case from your first conversation through your final follow-up visit.

Weight Loss Procedures Dr. K Performs

There is no single bariatric operation. The term covers several procedures, and Dr. K offers surgical, endoscopic and nonsurgical choices. That way, his recommendation is shaped by your health instead of one preferred method.

Candidacy

Who Is a Good Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery

Whether you qualify is about more than your weight today. Dr. K reviews your weight history, any weight-related health conditions, the approaches you have already tried and how ready you are for the new way of eating after surgery.

  • You have struggled to keep weight off through diet, exercise or medication.
  • Your weight is linked to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or joint pain.
  • You are ready to follow a pre-surgery diet and to change how you eat for the long term.
  • You can complete medical clearances and an upper endoscopy before surgery.
  • You use a GLP-1 injection and want to know whether medication, surgery or both makes sense.

For some people, surgery is not the best place to start. You may need to bring a health condition under control first, and an endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss can be the first step.

Why the right answer is sometimes GLP-1 medication, sometimes surgery and sometimes both.

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in Bay Harbor Islands, FL

Should I visit the office or meet by video first?

Either works. You can meet Dr. K in person at our South Miami office, about 40 minutes from Bay Harbor Islands, or start with a virtual consultation from home. Surgery takes place with us once your plan and testing are in place.

How much does bariatric surgery cost in Florida?

Our gastric sleeve package is $14,000, including the hospital stay and first-year follow-up, and Cherry financing is available. Pricing for other procedures is reviewed at your consultation.

What disqualifies you for bariatric surgery?

A single factor rarely rules you out. Dr. K looks at your health history, the medications you take, your medical clearances and how prepared you are to change the way you eat after surgery. When surgery is not the best first step, an endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss may come first.

Can I do pre-surgery testing near Bay Harbor Islands?

Yes. Your required medical clearances and upper endoscopy can be done with us or at an outside facility closer to home. Our team lets you know which tests you need and goes over the results with Dr. K.

How long does it take to lose 50 pounds after weight loss surgery?

Results vary with your starting weight, your procedure and how closely you stick to the diet after surgery. Weight loss is usually quickest in the first months. At your consultation, Dr. K gives you a realistic estimate for your specific procedure.

Can I keep taking my GLP-1 injection before surgery?

You need to stop them at least two weeks before your operation. Dr. K can also help you decide whether medication, surgery or a combination suits your goals.
