The Procedure

What Is Bariatric Surgery in Orange County, FL?

Bariatric surgery reduces the size of the stomach. In some procedures, it also changes how food moves through part of the digestive tract. You feel full on much smaller meals, and hunger signals grow quieter. Dr. K performs these operations with minimally invasive techniques through small incisions.

For patients in Orange County, surgery takes place with us in South Miami, about three and a half hours away by I-95 South and Florida's Turnpike. Patients from towns like Winter Park, Ocoee and Apopka make that trip to see one surgeon who knows their case from the first conversation to the last follow-up visit.

Your Options

Weight Loss Procedures Dr. K Performs

Bariatric surgery is a family of procedures, not one operation. Dr. K offers surgical, endoscopic and nonsurgical options, so the recommendation follows your health rather than a single technique.

Candidacy

Who Is a Good Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery

Eligibility is about more than what the scale says. Dr. K reviews your weight history, the health conditions linked to your weight, the approaches you have already tried and whether you are ready for the eating changes that come after surgery.

  • You have struggled to keep weight off through diet, exercise or medication.
  • Your weight is linked to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or joint pain.
  • You are ready to follow a pre-surgery diet and to change how you eat for the long term.
  • You can complete medical clearances and an upper endoscopy before surgery.
  • You use a GLP-1 injection and want to know whether medication, surgery or both makes sense.

Some patients need a different first step, such as getting a medical condition under control. An endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss can come first.

Why the right answer is sometimes GLP-1 medication, sometimes surgery and sometimes both.

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in Orange County, FL

Do I need to travel from Orange County for my consultation?

Not at all. Your first conversation with Dr. K can take place from home through a virtual consultation. The trip to South Miami comes later, for the surgery itself, once your plan and testing are in place.

How much does bariatric surgery cost in Florida?

Our gastric sleeve package is $14,000, including the hospital stay and first-year follow-up, and Cherry financing is available. Pricing for other procedures is reviewed at your consultation.

What disqualifies you for bariatric surgery?

Rarely is there one single disqualifier. Dr. K looks at your health history, current medications, medical clearances and readiness for the eating changes after surgery. When surgery is not the right first step, an endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss may come first.

Can I complete my pre-surgery tests in Orange County, FL?

Yes. Clearances and the upper endoscopy can be done with us or at an outside facility near home. Our team explains which tests you need and reviews the results with Dr. K.

How long does it take to lose 50 pounds after weight loss surgery?

The answer depends on your starting weight, the procedure and how closely you follow the post-surgery diet. Weight tends to come off fastest in the first months after surgery. At your consultation, Dr. K gives you a realistic estimate for your procedure.

Can I keep taking my GLP-1 injection before surgery?

They must stop at least two weeks before surgery. Dr. K can also tell you whether medication, surgery or both fits your goals.
