The Procedure

What Is Bariatric Surgery in Hillsborough County, FL?

Bariatric surgery shrinks the stomach and, with some procedures, reroutes part of the digestive system. You feel full after much smaller meals, and hunger cues grow quieter. Dr. K performs these operations with minimally invasive methods through small incisions.

Residents of Hillsborough County drive about three hours south on I-75 to reach our South Miami office. Many patients from Tampa, Brandon and Plant City make that trip for one surgeon who knows their case from the first call to the last follow-up visit.

Your Options

Weight Loss Procedures Dr. K Performs

Bariatric surgery is a family of procedures, not one operation. Dr. K offers surgical, endoscopic and nonsurgical options, so the recommendation follows your health rather than a single technique.

ProcedureApproachHow It WorksOften Suits

Candidacy

Who Is a Good Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery

Being a candidate is about more than the number on the scale. Dr. K considers your weight history, any health conditions linked to your weight, what you have already tried, and whether you are prepared for the eating changes after surgery.

  • You have struggled to keep weight off through diet, exercise or medication.
  • Your weight is linked to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or joint pain.
  • You are ready to follow a pre-surgery diet and to change how you eat for the long term.
  • You can complete medical clearances and an upper endoscopy before surgery.
  • You use a GLP-1 injection and want to know whether medication, surgery or both makes sense.

Some patients need a different first step, such as getting a medical condition under control. An endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss can come first.

Why the right answer is sometimes GLP-1 medication, sometimes surgery and sometimes both.

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in Hillsborough County, FL

Do I have to travel from Hillsborough County for my consultation?

No. We offer virtual consultations, so your first conversation with Dr. K can happen from home. You travel to South Miami for the surgery itself, once your plan and testing are in place.

How much does bariatric surgery cost in Florida?

Our gastric sleeve package is $14,000, including the hospital stay and first-year follow-up, and Cherry financing is available. Pricing for other procedures is reviewed at your consultation.

What disqualifies you for bariatric surgery?

There is rarely one single reason to say no. Dr. K reviews your health history, current medications, medical clearances and readiness for the eating changes that follow surgery. If surgery is not the right first step, an endoscopic procedure or medical weight loss may come first.

Can I do my pre-surgery tests in Tampa, FL?

Yes. The required medical clearances and upper endoscopy can be done with us or at an outside facility closer to home. Our team will tell you which tests to complete and review the results with Dr. K.

How long does it take to lose 50 pounds after weight loss surgery?

It depends on your starting weight, the procedure and how closely you follow the post-surgery diet. Weight usually comes off fastest in the first months after surgery. Dr. K gives you a realistic estimate for your procedure at your consultation.

Can I keep taking my GLP-1 injection before surgery?

They must stop at least two weeks before surgery. Dr. K can also tell you whether medication, surgery or both fits your goals.
