Procedures

What Bariatric Surgery in Palm Beach Gardens, FL Involves

Bariatric surgery makes the stomach smaller, and in some procedures changes the path food takes, so you feel full sooner and hunger signals shift. Dr. K trained in laparoscopic and robotic techniques, which use small incisions rather than one large one.

He does not offer one operation to everyone. Your weight, health history and goals decide which of these options fits.

Who Bariatric Surgery Is Right For

Bariatric surgery treats obesity and the conditions that come with it. Dr. K weighs your full health picture at the consultation rather than a single number on a chart.

Taking weight loss injections? They are stopped at least two weeks before surgery, and Dr. K plans that change with you so you keep your progress.

  • You have tried structured diets, exercise or medication and the weight keeps coming back.
  • You live with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholesterol or joint pain linked to your weight.
  • Your weight limits how you move, sleep or keep up with family and work.
  • You carry less weight than most surgical patients but it still affects your health: the Mini Sleeve may fit.
  • You are a teen between 14 and 17, or the parent of one, looking for a supervised surgical option.
  • You are ready to follow a pre-surgery diet and the eating stages that come after.
Your Plan

Medication, Surgery or Both: A Plan Built for You

GLP-1 medications can quiet appetite and start the weight coming off. Surgery such as the gastric sleeve or gastric bypass changes the stomach itself, which is why we consider it for lasting, long-term change.

For many patients the answer is not one or the other. Dr. K builds a plan around your health and goals and uses each tool when it does the most good.

  • GLP-1 medicationsTo control appetite and jumpstart loss, before or after a procedure.
  • Bariatric surgeryGastric sleeve or bypass when you need a durable change.
  • Nutrition coachingDiet stages and habits that hold up for life.
  • Concierge follow-upBecause the work continues well after surgery day.

FAQ

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in Palm Beach Gardens, FL

What Palm Beach Gardens patients ask most before their first visit.

Do I have to travel to South Miami for bariatric surgery from Palm Beach Gardens, FL?

Our office is in South Miami, and your consultation, surgery and follow-up are planned from there with Dr. K. The required medical clearances and upper endoscopy can be done at a facility closer to Palm Beach Gardens, and an endoscopy from the last five months is accepted. That keeps the drive for the visits that need your surgeon.

Is weight loss surgery worth it?

For many of our patients it is the step that finally held after years of diets, and some say in their reviews they wish they had done it sooner. It is still a lifelong commitment to new eating habits. Dr. K will tell you plainly whether surgery, medication or a combination fits you.

Does UnitedHealthcare or Medicaid pay for bariatric surgery?

Coverage depends on your specific plan and its bariatric benefit, so ask your insurer what it requires before you start. If you pay directly, our published sleeve package and Cherry financing give you a clear number to plan around.

How long is recovery after gastric sleeve surgery?

Most patients return to work 4 to 7 days after the procedure and avoid lifting more than 20 pounds while they heal. Over the following weeks you move through the post-surgery diet stages with our team guiding each one.

Which weight loss procedure is right for me?

That depends on your weight, health conditions, reflux history and goals. Dr. K performs the gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, Mini Sleeve, teen gastric sleeve, ESG and ORBERA balloon, and also oversees medical weight loss. Because the choice is not limited to one operation, the recommendation fits you rather than the other way around.

Can I stay on weight loss injections before surgery?

You will need to stop them at least two weeks before your surgery date. Dr. K plans that timing with you during preparation. Medication can have a place again later as part of a combined plan.
