Board-certified bariatric surgeon Dr. Reza Keshavarzi plans and performs your surgery himself, and much of the pre-op testing can be finished near West Palm Beach before you drive south.

Every pair shows one of our own patients, before on the left and after on the right. Results differ from person to person and depend on the procedure and the habits built after it.
Bariatric surgery reduces how much the stomach holds and, with some procedures, how much the body absorbs, so small meals leave you full.
Dr. K performs most operations laparoscopically, through a few small incisions with a camera. For patients who would rather avoid incisions, ESG and the ORBERA balloon are done endoscopically through the mouth.
Weight loss injections or surgery? GLP-1 medications quiet appetite for as long as you take them. Surgery changes the stomach itself. Dr. K prescribes medication and performs surgery, so you get one plan that weighs medication, surgery or a combination of the two.
Whichever option fits you, the same surgeon stays with you from planning to follow-up. If your plan changes along the way, your surgeon does not.
| Procedure | Approach | How it works | Often considered when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gastric Sleeve | Laparoscopic | A large part of the stomach is removed, leaving a slim tube that fills quickly and sends fewer hunger signals. | Patients with significant weight to lose who want one lasting operation. An expedited path is available. |
| Low BMI "Mini Sleeve" | Laparoscopic | The sleeve technique, planned for patients with less weight to lose. | Patients told elsewhere they do not weigh enough for surgery, whose weight still affects their health. |
| Teen Gastric Sleeve | Laparoscopic | A sleeve gastrectomy planned together with the teen and the parents. | Teens ages 14 to 17 whose weight has not responded to supervised diet and exercise. |
| Gastric Bypass | Laparoscopic | A small stomach pouch is joined to the small intestine, which limits both portion size and absorption. | Patients with reflux, type 2 diabetes or a larger weight loss goal. |
| Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) | No incisions | Sutures placed through an endoscope fold the stomach into a narrower shape. | Patients who want a smaller stomach without abdominal incisions. |
| ORBERA Gastric Balloon | No incisions | A soft balloon placed in the stomach takes up space for a set period and is then removed. | Patients who want a temporary, nonsurgical first step. |
| Medical Weight Loss | Nonsurgical | A personalized plan from our weight loss specialists that can include weight loss injections. | Patients not ready for a procedure, or wanting support before or after one. |
No single number on the scale decides it. Dr. K weighs your health conditions, your history with diets and medication, and the daily life you want, then tells you plainly which options fit and which do not.

Dr. Keshavarzi, Dr. K to his patients, has decades of experience in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery. He earned his medical degree with High Distinction from the University of Kentucky, completed his surgical residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital and then a fellowship in laparoscopic, bariatric and robotic surgery at Jackson South Medical Center.
For a patient coming from West Palm Beach, continuity matters most. The surgeon you meet at your consultation is the one who operates and the one who follows your progress, and patients describe him checking in by phone and text once they are home.
Your consultation and surgery are with Dr. K in South Miami, a drive down I-95 or Florida's Turnpike. Several steps in between can be finished closer to home, so each trip south counts.
He reviews your health history and what you have tried before, explains which options fit and why, and builds your plan.
Required clearances can be done at our clinic or at a facility in Palm Beach County. Your surgery date moves as fast as these are completed.
Every patient needs an EGD before surgery. Dr. K can perform it, or a recent one from another facility can be used.
Our team guides you through the required pre-surgery diet. Weight loss injections are stopped at least 2 weeks before the operation.
Dr. K performs your procedure in the hospital. The sleeve package covers your hospital stay and all hospital-related fees.
Lifting over 20 lbs is off limits early on while your diet moves back to regular food in stages. Follow-up visits through the first year are included in the sleeve package.
"Dr. Keshavarzi explained every detail of the surgery from getting prepared, to the actual day of surgery, and beyond."
"I sought him out on the referral from another patient and I can't say enough about how great his bedside manner, his attentiveness to care and his follow through with my case."
"Dr. K really cares, he's with you every step of the way."

Answers to the questions West Palm Beach patients ask most before their first visit.
Your visits with Dr. K take place at our office at 7330 SW 62nd Pl, Suite 210, in South Miami. Required medical clearances can be completed at a facility closer to West Palm Beach, and an EGD done within the last 5 months is accepted. That keeps the drives south to the visits that need Dr. K in person.
Surgery changes how much the stomach holds, and with some procedures how much the body absorbs, so patients feel full on far smaller meals. How well it works long term depends on the eating plan, activity and follow-up that come after it. That is why first-year follow-up visits are part of our gastric sleeve package.
There is no single number of pounds that decides it. Dr. K looks at your weight together with conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnea, and at what you have already tried. Patients with less weight to lose may be a fit for our Low BMI Mini Sleeve, ESG or the ORBERA balloon.
Avoid lifting anything over 20 lbs during early recovery, and follow the staged diet our team gives you rather than returning to regular food on your own schedule. Most patients go back to work 4 to 7 days after the procedure. Follow-up visits adjust your plan as you heal.
Coverage depends on your plan, and we review insurance questions with you at your consultation. Patients paying on their own can choose our $14,000 gastric sleeve package, and Cherry financing offers up to 24 months at 0% interest.
Weight loss injections such as GLP-1 medications must be stopped at least 2 weeks before your operation. Dr. K prescribes these medications as well, so he can time the switch from medication to surgery as part of one plan.
Your date depends on how quickly your required tests are finished. Results from our recommended doctor usually come back within 48 hours, and surgery dates are often available within the current month once everything is complete.
