Dr. Reza Keshavarzi's Mini Sleeve is a gastric sleeve planned for adults with a BMI of 25 to 30, just below the usual cutoff for weight loss surgery.
Traditional surgery criteria start at a higher BMI, so people who are overweight but not severely obese are often told surgery is not an option. Dr. K offers the Mini Sleeve to that group and decides candidacy one patient at a time.
Dr. K performs all of these, so his advice is not tied to one procedure.

A low BMI gastric sleeve is a sleeve gastrectomy planned for people who are overweight rather than severely obese. Dr. K calls his version the Mini Sleeve.
Through a few small laparoscopic incisions, he removes part of the stomach and shapes the rest into a narrower sleeve sized for a lower BMI. A smaller stomach fills sooner, and the operation also lowers hunger hormones, so smaller portions satisfy.
Nothing is rerouted. Your intestines stay as they are, so food follows its natural path. Miramar patients see the same surgeon at our South Miami office from consultation to the last follow-up.

Most of the time before surgery goes to testing. Once your results are in, surgery dates are often available within the current month.
He reviews your BMI, weight history and health, then tells you whether the Mini Sleeve or another option suits you.
Bloodwork and medical clearances can be done with our recommended doctor, who returns results within 48 hours, or at an outside facility.
An EGD checks your stomach before the sleeve is planned. Dr. K can perform it, or a recent one from another facility may count.
You follow the pre-surgery diet Dr. K prescribes, and our team stays in touch as your date approaches.
Dr. K checks on you before discharge the next day. Follow-up visits continue through your first year.
Dr. K prescribes weight loss medication and performs both sleeves, so he can lay the options side by side for your situation.

He also performs the standard sleeve, gastric bypass, ESG and the ORBERA gastric balloon, and oversees medical weight loss, so he can tell you plainly when a Mini Sleeve is not the right call.

Traditional weight loss surgery criteria generally start at a BMI of 35, or 30 with weight-related conditions. Dr. K's Mini Sleeve is planned for adults with a BMI of 25 to 30, and he decides candidacy after reviewing your health, weight history and goals.
Dr. K may recommend another path if your health makes surgery unwise right now, if your BMI sits outside the Mini Sleeve range, or if you are not ready for lasting changes in eating and activity. Medical clearances and an upper endoscopy are part of that decision.
Our gastric sleeve package is $14,000 and includes the surgeon's fee, hospital stay, hospital-related fees and first-year follow-up visits. Dr. K confirms your Mini Sleeve price at your consultation, and Cherry financing is available.
It depends on your starting weight, your health, your nutrition and activity, and how closely you follow the plan after surgery. Because Mini Sleeve patients start at a lower BMI, the total number of pounds lost is usually smaller than after a sleeve at a higher BMI. Dr. K will give you a realistic target based on your own numbers.
Most patients return to work 4 to 7 days after the procedure. Avoid lifting anything heavier than 20 pounds while you heal, and follow the post-op diet plan Dr. K gives you.
Yes. Weight loss injections must stop at least two weeks before surgery. Dr. K will tell you when to take your last dose as part of your pre-op plan.
The Mini Sleeve is done laparoscopically through a few small incisions rather than one large one. Scarring tends to fade with time and proper follow-up care.
