See one board-certified bariatric surgeon for every step, and complete much of your pre-op testing at a facility near home in North Miami.
BeforeAfterEach pair shows a patient Dr. Keshavarzi operated on, photographed before the procedure and again after the weight came off.
Results differ with the procedure, the starting weight and the habits built afterward. Follow-up visits through the first year help keep that progress on track.

Medication, surgery or a combination: knowing which one fits you is the first decision.
Bariatric surgery makes the stomach smaller or reroutes digestion, so you feel satisfied on much smaller portions. Many patients also notice that hunger quiets down between meals.
Dr. K performs the surgical procedures laparoscopically, through a few small incisions. The endoscopic options are done through the mouth, with no cuts on the abdomen at all.
Because Dr. K also runs our medical weight loss program with GLP-1 medication, his advice is not built around a single operation. Some patients do well with medication alone, others need surgery, and some benefit from both in sequence.
Seven approaches, one surgeon. If your plan changes, your surgeon does not. Each option has its own page with more detail.
| Option | What happens | Often a fit for |
|---|---|---|
| Gastric Sleeve | About three quarters of the stomach is removed laparoscopically, leaving a slim tube that fills quickly. | Adults with significant weight to lose who want one durable procedure. An expedited path is available. |
| Low BMI Gastric Sleeve | Our "Mini Sleeve" applies the sleeve technique to a lower starting weight. | People with less to lose whose weight still affects their health. |
| Teen Gastric Sleeve | A sleeve gastrectomy planned around an adolescent, with nutrition and family support. | Teens with severe obesity that supervised programs have not resolved. |
| Gastric Bypass | A small stomach pouch connects straight to the small intestine, reducing both intake and absorption. | Patients with severe reflux, type 2 diabetes or a larger amount to lose. |
| Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) | Sutures placed through an endoscope fold the stomach into a smaller shape. | Patients who want restriction without incisions. |
| ORBERA Gastric Balloon | A soft balloon is placed in the stomach endoscopically, filled, and removed at a later date. | Patients who want a temporary, nonsurgical start. |
| Medical Weight Loss | A physician-supervised plan that can include GLP-1 injections, nutrition guidance and regular check-ins. | Patients not ready for a procedure, or who want support before or after one. |
Surgery is meant for people whose weight is affecting their health or daily life and who have not been able to keep it off with diet, exercise or medication alone.
Candidacy is about more than a number on the scale. Dr. K looks at your history, current medications and goals, then tells you directly which options suit you and which do not.

Board-certified bariatric surgeon and our lead surgeon. Patients know him as Dr. K.
Dr. K completed his surgical residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital and his fellowship in laparoscopic, bariatric and robotic surgery at Jackson South Medical Center, so his training is rooted in Miami-Dade. He leads your care from the first consultation through follow-up, and reviews often mention that he answers calls and texts after surgery.
Dr. K lives the habits he recommends: staying active and eating well.

Most patients are back at work in 4 to 7 days and avoid lifting more than 20 pounds while healing.
Visits through the first year, included in the sleeve package, to adjust your diet stages and track progress.

Our gastric sleeve has one published package price, so you can budget from a real figure rather than a wide estimate.
If Dr. K performs your pre-op endoscopy, the procedure is included in your surgery cost, with a separate $750 hospital fee. Pricing for gastric bypass, ESG, the balloon and medical weight loss depends on your plan and is covered at your consultation.
Financing is available through Cherry, and debit and credit cards are accepted for the remaining balance. Review financing details.

Approval starts with a consultation, where Dr. K reviews your health history, past weight loss attempts and goals. Before surgery you complete medical clearances and an upper endoscopy, or EGD, then follow a required pre-surgery diet. Surgery can often be scheduled within the same month once your tests are done.
For people whose weight affects their health and who have not kept it off with diet, exercise or medication alone, surgery can be a turning point. In our Google reviews, patients often describe it as a life-changing decision. Dr. K will tell you plainly whether surgery, medication or a combination fits your situation.
There is no fixed number, because early weight loss depends on your starting weight, your health and how closely you follow the diet stages. Weight usually comes off fastest in the first months after surgery, then the pace slows. Dr. K sets realistic expectations for you at your consultation and tracks your progress at your follow-up visits.
Most patients return to work 4 to 7 days after their procedure. While you heal, avoid lifting anything heavier than 20 pounds. Dr. K gives you specific instructions for your procedure and your type of work.
Yes. Many patients start with GLP-1 medication and later choose surgery for a longer-lasting result. Weight loss injections need to stop at least 2 weeks before surgery, and Dr. K plans that timing with you.
