Before and After Photos From Our Patients

Each pair shows a patient of Dr. Keshavarzi before surgery and again after their weight loss.

No two results are the same. Your outcome depends on the procedure, your starting point and the habits you keep afterward, which is why sleeve patients have a full year of follow-up visits built into their package.

Learning with Dr. K: how weight, blood sugar and activity fit together.

The Basics

How Bariatric Surgery in Tamiami, FL Works

Weight loss surgery makes the stomach smaller or reroutes digestion, so you feel satisfied with much less food and often feel less hungry between meals.

Dr. K performs the sleeve and bypass laparoscopically, through a few small incisions. ESG and the ORBERA balloon are placed endoscopically through the mouth, with no cuts on the abdomen.

Because he also runs our medical weight loss program, the recommendation you get is not built around one operation. Some patients do well with GLP-1 medication, some with surgery, and some with both in sequence. The procedure is the start. The diet stages, follow-up visits and coaching that come after it are what keep the weight off.

Candidacy

Who Is a Good Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery

Surgery is for people whose weight is affecting their health, mobility or everyday life, and who have not kept it off with diet, exercise or medication alone.

Approval depends on more than a number on the scale. Dr. K looks at your medical history, current medications and goals, then tells you directly which options suit you and which do not. Medical clearances and an upper endoscopy confirm the plan before a date is set.

  • Diets, programs or apps have worked for a while, then the weight returned.
  • Weight-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, reflux or joint pain are part of your life.
  • You lost weight on GLP-1 injections and want a result that does not depend on staying on them.
  • You have less weight to lose and want to know whether a low BMI sleeve, ESG or balloon fits.
  • Your teenager has severe obesity and supervised programs have not been enough.
  • You are ready to follow staged nutrition and keep your follow-up visits.

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in Tamiami, FL

How much does bariatric surgery cost in Tamiami, FL?

Our gastric sleeve package is $14,000. It covers the hospital stay, the surgeon's fee, all hospital-related fees and your follow-up appointments for the first year after surgery. Pricing for gastric bypass, ESG, the gastric balloon and medical weight loss depends on your plan and is reviewed at your consultation.

Does insurance such as UnitedHealthcare pay for bariatric surgery?

Coverage depends on your specific plan and its requirements, so the answer differs from patient to patient. Our team can go over your options at your consultation. For patients paying directly, we publish our gastric sleeve package price and offer financing through Cherry, including 24 months at 0% interest.

How do I get approved for bariatric surgery?

It starts with a consultation, where Dr. K reviews your health history, past weight loss attempts and goals and tells you which options fit. Before surgery you complete medical clearances, an upper endoscopy (EGD) and a pre-surgery diet. How quickly you get a surgery date depends mostly on how fast those steps are finished.

How much weight will I lose 3 months after gastric sleeve?

It varies with your starting weight, your health and how closely you follow the post-surgery diet, so no honest surgeon can promise a number. Weight loss is usually fastest in the first months after surgery. Your follow-up visits during the first year track your progress and adjust your diet stages along the way.

Can I take GLP-1 injections before bariatric surgery?

Yes, and many of our patients start with medication. Weight loss injections must be stopped at least 2 weeks before surgery. Dr. K also oversees medical weight loss, so he can tell you whether medication, surgery or a combination makes the most sense for you.

Can I do my pre-op tests closer to home in Tamiami?

Yes. Required tests can be done at our clinic or at an outside facility you choose. An EGD performed within the last 5 months is accepted, and if Dr. Keshavarzi performs it himself, the procedure is included in your surgery cost apart from a $750 hospital fee.

When can I go back to work after bariatric surgery?

Most patients return to work 4 to 7 days after their procedure. While you heal, avoid lifting anything heavier than 20 pounds. Dr. K gives you specific instructions for your procedure before you leave the hospital.
