Frequently Asked Questions
A hernia is a tear in the lining of the abdominal wall. This tear allows tissues within the abdomen to protrude, causing pain and a bulging of the stomach. These tears can develop in any part of the abdomen. Typically, hernias are the result of a strain on the abdominal wall. This strain can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, pregnancy, athletic activities, aging, and obesity.
In the past, hernias had to be repaired using “open” surgical techniques, during which surgeons had to create large incisions in the abdominal wall. This led to painful, extensive recovery times. Over time, less invasive laparoscopic techniques began to grow in popularity but were still difficult to apply to the removal of hernias.Robotic hernia repair unites these two methods, bringing doctors the healing capabilities of open surgery while maintaining the patient benefits and quick recovery time of laparoscopic techniques.During robotic hernia repair, Dr. Keshavarzi utilizes technology that gives him a three-dimensional HD view of the body, control over wristed instruments that are able to bend and rotate in ways a human wrist can not, and enhanced vision and control of the surgical process.
Nearly any patient with an abdominal hernia that needs to be removed is a potential candidate for robotic hernia repair. Before surgery can be undergone, patients must first schedule a consultation appointment with Dr. Keshavarzi. During this appointment, he will examine your hernia and decide if this procedure is right for you.Looking for a safe and effective way to resolve your hernia?
