Before and After Results From Dr. K's Patients

Each pair shows a patient who had weight loss surgery with Dr. Reza Keshavarzi and came back to us for follow-up care.

How much weight a patient loses depends on the procedure, their health at the start and the habits they keep afterward. Those habits are built during the first year of visits, so follow-up is part of the plan from day one.

Same smiles, same friendship, a different life after a gastric sleeve.

GLP-1 medication, surgery or both: how Dr. K matches the treatment to the patient.

How It Works

What Is Bariatric Surgery in Martin County, FL

Bariatric surgery reduces how much your stomach holds, or changes how food passes through it, so you feel full on small meals and hunger becomes easier to control.

The gastric sleeve removes most of the stomach, leaving a narrow tube. The gastric bypass forms a small pouch joined to a lower part of the intestine. Dr. K performs both laparoscopically, through several small incisions with a camera to guide him. ESG and the ORBERA gastric balloon are placed through the mouth with an endoscope and leave no incisions on the abdomen.

Many patients on the Treasure Coast reach us after trying GLP-1 injections. Because Dr. K runs our medical weight loss program as well as the operating room, his advice is not tied to a single answer: medication, a procedure or a plan that uses both.

Candidates

Signs You May Be a Candidate

Weight loss surgery deserves a serious look when your weight is affecting your health or your daily life and your past efforts have not held.

No single measurement makes the decision. Dr. K reviews your conditions, medications, history and goals, then tells you plainly which options suit you and which do not.

  • You have lost weight with diets, apps or programs and gained it back each time.
  • Your weight is tied to type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, reflux or joint pain.
  • GLP-1 injections helped at first, then stalled, or you do not want to stay on them for years.
  • You have less to lose and want to know whether the Mini Sleeve, ESG or a balloon fits.
  • You are a parent looking for a supervised surgical option for a teen with severe obesity.
  • You are ready to change how you eat and to keep your follow-up visits through the first year.

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in Martin County, FL

Do I have to travel to South Miami for every step if I live in Martin County, FL?

No. Your surgery and follow-up visits are with Dr. K and our team, but many required tests and medical clearances can be done at a facility nearer Stuart or Palm City. An upper endoscopy done elsewhere in the last 5 months is accepted. We tell you early which steps need to happen with us.

How much weight will I lose 3 months after a gastric sleeve?

It differs from patient to patient. Your starting weight, your health and how closely you follow the post-op diet all change the number. Weight usually comes off fastest in the first months, and Dr. K tracks your progress at each follow-up visit so your plan can be adjusted early.

Is Ozempic better than a gastric sleeve?

Neither is better for everyone. Dr. K oversees our medical weight loss program and performs the gastric sleeve, so he can tell you which fits your health and history, or whether the two should be combined. If you choose surgery, weight loss injections need to stop at least 2 weeks before your operation.

Is weight loss surgery worth it?

That is a personal decision you make with Dr. K after looking at your health, your past attempts and your goals. Many of our patients write in their reviews that they wish they had done it sooner. Surgery works when it is paired with new eating habits and regular follow-up, which is why the first year of follow-up is part of our gastric sleeve package.

How soon can I go back to work after bariatric surgery?

Most patients return to work 4 to 7 days after the procedure. You should not lift more than 20 pounds while you heal. Desk jobs are usually easier to return to early than physical work, and Dr. K will tell you what fits your recovery.

How quickly can I get a surgery date?

Surgery dates are often available within the same month. The timing depends mostly on how fast your tests, clearances and endoscopy are completed. Patients ready to move quickly can ask about our expedited gastric sleeve.
