Pre-op tests can be done closer to home, surgery dates often open within the month, and your board-certified surgeon stays reachable by phone and text once you are back home.

Results differ with the procedure, your starting health and the habits you build after surgery. That is why your first year of follow-up visits is part of the plan from the start, not an add-on.

A patient story told through her before and after: the decision, the commitment and how far she came.
Dr. K answers rapid-fire questions patients ask about weight loss surgery.
Bariatric surgery changes the size or the path of the stomach so you feel full on far less food and hunger signals quiet down.
Most procedures Dr. K performs are laparoscopic, done through a few small incisions with a camera. Others need no incisions at all: endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty reshapes the stomach from the inside, and the ORBERA gastric balloon is placed through the mouth and removed later.
For patients in Monroe County, the procedure is only part of the decision. The other part is how much of the process you can complete without a long drive, and who you can reach after you are home. This page answers both.
Dr. K performs or oversees all seven options, so the recommendation you get is based on your health, not on the one procedure a surgeon happens to offer.
| Option | How it works | Incisions | Often considered for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gastric Sleeve | About three quarters of the stomach is removed, leaving a narrow sleeve that fills quickly. | A few small incisions | Adults with significant weight to lose. An expedited path is open when testing is finished quickly. |
| Low BMI Mini Sleeve | The sleeve technique, planned for a BMI of 25 to 30. | A few small incisions | Patients below the usual surgical thresholds whose weight still affects their health. |
| Teen Gastric Sleeve | A sleeve gastrectomy for ages 14 to 17, with nutrition coaching and family support. | A few small incisions | Teens with obesity after supervised programs have not worked. |
| Gastric Bypass | A small stomach pouch is connected to the small intestine, limiting intake and absorption. | A few small incisions | Patients with severe reflux, type 2 diabetes or more weight to lose. |
| ESG | Sutures placed through an endoscope fold the stomach into a smaller shape. | None | Patients who want restriction without abdominal incisions. |
| ORBERA Gastric Balloon | A soft balloon is placed in the stomach to take up space, then removed. | None | Patients who want a temporary, nonsurgical start. |
| Medical Weight Loss | A personalized plan that can include weight loss injections and nutrition guidance. | None | Patients not ready for a procedure, or who want support before or after one. |
Surgery is worth considering when excess weight is harming your health or limiting your daily life, and repeated attempts with diet, exercise or medication have not lasted.
Your weight is one part of the picture. Dr. K reviews your conditions, medications, past attempts and goals, then tells you plainly which options fit and which do not.

Board-certified bariatric surgeon and our lead surgeon, called Dr. K by patients and staff.
Dr. K meets you at your consultation, performs your procedure and oversees your follow-up himself. He also leads our medical weight loss program, so he can compare surgery with injections or an endoscopic option from experience with all of them. He coaches patients on activity and nutrition, and he keeps to the same habits himself.
Dr. K on getting outside and moving, and why activity matters with any weight loss plan.
The trip to our office is the main hurdle for Monroe County patients, so the path to surgery is planned to keep trips few and waiting short.
Dr. K reviews your health, history and goals and recommends a procedure or a medical plan.
Medical clearances can be done at our clinic or an outside facility. An EGD from the last 5 months is accepted.
You follow a pre-surgery diet at home, and any weight loss injections stop at least 2 weeks ahead.
Dates often open within the same month once your tests are complete.
Most patients are back at work in 4 to 7 days. Follow-up visits continue through your first year.
Living far from your surgeon matters less when the surgeon keeps in touch.

Our gastric sleeve has one published package price, so you can plan the cost before your first visit.
The package covers everything listed on the card, including a year of follow-up. If Dr. K performs your pre-op endoscopy, the procedure is part of the overall cost and only a hospital fee is added. Pricing for gastric bypass, ESG, the gastric balloon and medical weight loss depends on your plan and is reviewed at your consultation.
Financing is available through Cherry, and debit or credit cards are accepted for the remaining balance. See our financing details.

Surgery plus your first year of care
No. Required medical clearances can be completed at our clinic or at an outside facility closer to you in Monroe County, and an EGD done within the last 5 months is accepted. Your consultation with Dr. K, your surgery and your follow-up visits are with our team. We coordinate the steps so the number of trips stays low.
It depends on your starting weight, your health and how closely you follow the post-op diet. Weight usually comes off fastest in the first months after a sleeve, then slows. We track your progress at every follow-up visit and adjust your nutrition plan, rather than promising a number before surgery.
They are different tools. GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic act on appetite while you take them, and a gastric sleeve physically reduces the size of the stomach. Dr. K prescribes weight loss injections and performs surgery, so he can tell you which fits your health, or whether a combination makes sense. If you choose surgery, injections must stop at least 2 weeks before your procedure.
For patients whose weight affects their health and who have not kept weight off with diet, exercise or medication, surgery can be the step that finally changes the pattern. Several patients write in their reviews that they wish they had done it sooner. Dr. K will tell you honestly whether surgery, an endoscopic option or medical weight loss is the better fit for you.
Yes. An upper endoscopy, called an EGD, is required along with medical clearances. You can have it done elsewhere, or Dr. Keshavarzi can perform it, in which case the procedure is part of your overall cost and a hospital fee applies.
Most patients return to work 4 to 7 days after the procedure. You should not lift more than 20 pounds while you heal. Plan for the staged post-op diet in your first weeks at home.
Patients have Dr. K's personal cell phone number and can call or text him with questions. Reviews describe him checking in with patients after they went home. Our team also follows you through your first year of visits.
Medication, surgery or both: how Dr. K builds a plan around the patient.
Monroe County patients see Dr. K at our South Miami office for surgery planning and follow-up. You leave your consultation with a clear recommendation, your next steps and your costs.
