Before and After Results From Our Patients

These are patients Dr. Reza Keshavarzi operated on and our team followed through recovery, photographed by them or in our office.

How much weight you lose depends on the procedure, your starting health and the habits you keep afterward. Your follow-up visits are where those habits get built, which is why the first year of follow-up is part of the plan from day one.

How It Works

What Is Bariatric Surgery in Miami-Dade County, FL

Bariatric surgery reduces how much the stomach holds or reroutes food past part of it, so you feel satisfied with small portions and, after a sleeve, produce less of the hormone that drives hunger.

Our surgical procedures are laparoscopic, performed through a few small incisions with a camera. Our endoscopic options go through the mouth and leave no incisions on the abdomen. Either way, the procedure is the start of a plan that includes a staged diet, nutrition guidance and regular visits.

Many patients reach us after trying GLP-1 injections. Because Dr. Keshavarzi oversees medical weight loss as well as surgery, he can tell you honestly whether medication, a procedure or both will serve you better, and how to move from one to the other safely.

Who Bariatric Surgery Is Meant For

Surgery makes sense when excess weight is harming your health or limiting daily life, and repeated efforts with diet, exercise or medication have not held.

Your weight is only one part of the picture. Dr. K looks at your conditions, medications, past attempts and goals, then tells you plainly which options fit and which do not.

  • Diets and programs have worked for a while, then the weight returned.
  • You manage type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, reflux or joint pain linked to your weight.
  • GLP-1 injections helped but you cannot stay on them, or the results stalled.
  • You have less weight to lose and want to know if a Mini Sleeve, ESG or balloon is right for you.
  • You are a parent looking for a supervised surgical option for a teen with severe obesity.
  • You are ready to follow a nutrition plan and keep your follow-up visits.

Questions

FAQ About Bariatric Surgery in Miami-Dade County, FL

Where will I be seen if I live elsewhere in Miami-Dade County, FL?

Your consultation, surgery planning and follow-up visits are with Dr. K and our team at our South Miami office. Required pre-op tests can be done at our clinic or at an outside facility, so you can complete many of them closer to home. Our team coordinates each step so you are not left tracking it on your own.

How soon can I schedule bariatric surgery?

Surgery dates are often available within the same month. The main factor is how quickly your medical clearances and endoscopy are completed. We also offer an expedited gastric sleeve path for patients who are ready to move quickly.

Do I need an endoscopy before surgery?

Yes. An upper endoscopy, called an EGD, is required along with medical clearances. Dr. Keshavarzi can perform it, in which case the procedure is included in your overall cost and a separate hospital fee applies, or you can have it done elsewhere. An EGD from within the last 5 months is accepted.

Can I keep taking GLP-1 injections before surgery?

Weight loss injections must be stopped at least 2 weeks before surgery. Many patients come to us after trying GLP-1 medication, and Dr. K can explain whether medication, surgery or a combination fits your goals. He oversees medical weight loss as well as surgery, so the advice is not tied to one option.

When can I go back to work after a gastric sleeve?

Most patients return to work 4 to 7 days after the procedure. Avoid lifting more than 20 pounds while you heal. You will also move through staged diet phases, and your follow-up visits check that recovery stays on track.

Is there an option if I have less weight to lose?

Yes. Our low BMI Mini Sleeve is designed for patients with less weight to lose than standard surgical criteria assume, and ESG and the ORBERA gastric balloon are nonsurgical alternatives. Dr. K reviews your history and goals before recommending any of them.

Do you perform bariatric surgery for teenagers?

Yes. Dr. K offers a teen gastric sleeve for adolescents with severe obesity when supervised diet and exercise have not been enough. The program includes close nutrition guidance and support for the whole family.

Say hello to Dr. K, the surgeon you meet at your consultation.
